Classical pianist Douglas Finch may change that conception. Mr. Finch, who will be appearing in concert at Blyth Memorial Hall on Oct. 21 is a composer as well as an accomplished pianist. His composition skills are evident in the improvisations he includes in his programs. Audience members are asked to suggest a theme, and Mr. Finch creates a varied classical study from it --a skill many more celebrated pianists might envy. 'Mr. Finch's amazing improvisatory skills are backed by the technique and interpreta- tion of an experienced concert pianist. At the age of -27 he has already collected an impressive array of awards from piano competitions across Canada and Europe, has performed in recital and with orchestras both in Canada and in Europe, and is often featured on radio broadcasts, notably and frequently on CBC's Arts National. The Toronto Star called him "an unusually gifted • pianist" and John Kraglund of the Globe and Mail commented "...a talent which should soon start attracting wider attention." His recent compositions have also been the subject of CBC's "T QNew Hours". Mr. Finch Wille performing in the tri -centenary Bach, Handel and Scarlatti f >\ STAG tor RANDY WILSON Fri.
