The Tavistock Braves scored four goals in
each of the first two periods and then coasted
to a 9-6 victory over the Centenaires as
Seaforth's Junior "D" team opened with its,
first game of the season Sunday afternoon.
The Braves are now 1-1 after losing their
first game to •defending champion Mt.
Brydges by a 7-1 score.
Penalties proved.costly for the Centenaires
as they allowed the Braves four power play
goals.
Tavistock led 4-2 after the first period and
8-5 after the second. Each team scored once
, in the final frame. The Braves also scored orie
of their; goals on a penalty shot. ..,
Derek Cooper played the' entire game in
goal for the Centenaires and ,at times looked
rather shaky as the Braves tested him with 41
shots. The Centenaires on the other hand
fired 38 at Tavistock goalie Ken Duiker.
The Braves seemed to hold a margin of the
play in the first two periods with the
Centenaires taking over in the third.
Last season's league scoring -champion
Kevin Albrecht led the Tavistock offence by
firing four goals and adding four assists. His
linemates Terry Ross and Scott Alexander
each fired a pair while Brad Zehr added a
single.
The line of John Dale, Dave Murray and
Jim Campbell supplied most of the fire power
for the Centenaires with Murray scoring a hat
trick and picking up two assists. Dale,
Campbell and defenceman Pete Bennett
rounded out the rest of the Centenaire
scoring. Penalties were even at 21 minutes
apiece including fighting majors. to Kevin
Willianison of the Centenaires and Brad Zehr
of the Braves.
The Centenaires are a young team this
season and with a few mote. games and
practices under their belts should be strong
contenders in the league.
Their next home game is this Friday, Oct.
19 at 8:30 when they play host to the always
tough Lucan Irish.
