Alley. bowling this Monday saw Gladys Ruston with the high score for the ladies with 195 while Patrick Ryan had 156 for the men. Residents attended bingo on Friday afternoon. Lucky cards were held by Edith Sato (3),_.Patrick Ryan, Charles Ross, Gladys Ruston, James Nolan, Elmer Bakcsy, Irene Omand and Margeurite Shill. Ila Gardner and Leo O'Sullivan are presently confined to Seaforth • Community Hospital. The sympathy of residents and staff go to staff member, Betty McGregor R.N. in the passing of her father, the late Mr. Hallahan. Rev. W. Barber of First Presbyterian Church visited residents on Monday after- noon. Residents and staff are busy working for the annual bazaar and tea to be held on Saturday November 3. An evening work bee was held Thursday evening with another one planned this week. There will be several new features this year. Students entertain The St. James CWL was entertained on Tuesday evening by pupils from the school, showing slides of Seaforth and giving the history of the area. Mrs. W. Maloney and Mrs. Vincent told of their visit to Midland and Downsview to see Pope John Paul. The Deanery meeting is being held this week at St. Peters Church, Goderich, Father Caruana spoke on the Government Assistance planned for the Seperate Scho 's, Other business included plans for the Nov. 24 Bazaar concluded the meeting. Thanksgiving Pay was observed at Sea- iljrth Health Care Facility with many visitors present. Dietary served a sumptuous Thanks- giving dinner. • A fall display of fruit, vegetables and leaves had been arranged by Ruth Nolan. Visiting with Mrs. Irene Omand were her family and spending Sunday at, home with their families were Erle Dow, James Nolan, Carole Geddes and Gladys Ruston and Ria V4ogel. Alvin McNain was visited by his cousins. Gladys Ruston and husband celebrated their 25th anniversary with a family dinner on Sunday and a party at her daughters on Friday evening. Visiting.with Bill Scott were his sisters Ina and Ellen Scott of London and Mrs. Lovey Shaw of London and his wife Isabel. Suzanne Jessome of Edmonton, Alberta visited with Mr. and Mrs. Dave Netzke. Also visiting with them was their daughter Mrs. Altman. Birthday greetings to Kelly Lamont on Oct. 5 and to Lennie Bloomfield on Oct. 9. Visiting with Len on that day were Angela and Michael Stoll. Last Tuesday the euchre club met with volunteers and five tables were in play. Worship service was conducted on Wed- nesday afternoon by Shirley Luther of the Salvation Army. Madge Remes enjoyed an outing last Wednesday with her daughter-in-law Anita Scroggs. Visiting with James Nolan were his wife Mary and Alvin McDonald of Walton. Visiting with Carole Geddes were husband Charlie, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Ryan 'Of Dublin and their children. This was Carole's first time to see her new grandson, Adam. (Mcllwralth photo) UCW rally held in Brucefield The 23rd annual East Huron Regional Rally gf United Church Women was held in Brucefield on Oct. 1. East Huron Regional President Joyce Dowson presided over the meeting which began with a sing -a -long with Donna McBeath at the organ. Workshops were led by the chairpersons and committee members on Stewardship and Finance, Church in Society, Leadership Development, Christian Development and World Outreach. Barbara Moffatt, president of rucefield, UCW welcomed all to the meet nFirst vice-president of Huron -Perth Pr sbyterial, Alma Langford brought greet ngs and announcements from Presbyterial. The annual meeting is to be Jan. 28 in Wingham and the special event evening in St. Marys, Apr. 15. This years study is on Korea. 'Beth Cooper entertained with several solos. Sheila Fink, of Goderich was introduced bt Regional Vice -President Ruth Axtmann. She ) spoke on Illiteracy in Canada and Huron County. In keeping with the program theme "Bear ye one anothers burdens", Mrs, Fink told of the heavy burden illiteracy is for people who for some reason have never learned to read and write, and how the volunteer teachers see the hand of God at work when they are helping to remove that burden from tneir students. Leila Finkbeiner reviewed several avail- able books and an invitation was received and accepted from Egmondville UCW to host the 1985 rally. The evening concluded with worship led by Wesley Willis United Church Women and president Joyce Dowson gave the benedic- tion. Arthritis affects young and old While arthritis does affect many older people, it is not just a disease of the old. Men and women of any age can get it and there are more than 30,000 children in Canada under the age of 15 who have this disease. Teenagers are also susceptible. More than 115 different types of arthritis have been identified and while there is no sexual preference there are two types that are more common in young women; Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (Lupus) and Rheuma- toid Arthritis. Lupus is a chronic Rheumatic Disease which causes damage through inflammation of many tissues of the body. As well, lupus increases the chances of kidney, heart, lung and central nervous sytem malfunction. Primarily, women between the ages of 20 and 40 are affected and the occurrance is eight to 10 times more frequent in women than in men. More than 25,000 Canadians are currently affected by this disease. While there is no cure, lupus can be controlled. Another rheumatic disease that most often affects women, is Rheumatoid Arthritis. it causes inflammation and fever.
