the Thanksgiving service.

The large choir sang "Be Thankful to the
lord" with organ accompaniment.
The minister expressed his appreciation
•for the work of art in the display arranged by
"Mrs. James Hunter, Mrs. Glenn Coultes and
'Mrs. Robert Grasby.
THANKOFF'ERING MIEETINO
The WMS Thankoffering meeting was held
on Oct. 1 at the home of Mrs. Victor
Youngblut.
Mrs. Youngblut opened the meeting with a
reading and read the prayer.
The meditation was taken by Mrs. Joe
Dunbar, Mrs. William Dalrymple and Mrs.
Garner Nicholson. The Thanksgiving service
in the Glad Tidings was used for the worship
service.
Each lady brought a poem or story on
Thanksgiving to read. The secretary's report
was given by Mrs. John McBurney and Mrs.
Youngblut gave the treasurer's report.
ANNIVERSARY SURPRISE
A special day 45 years ago was remember-
ed when relatives gathered at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gordon to celebrate with
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Taylor their wedding
anniversary.
The couple was taken by surprise when
relatives gathered with their best wishes.
A social evening of progressive euchre was
enjoyed after which lucky draw prizes were
handed out. The winners were Mrs. Ross
Robinson, Mrs. Calvin Robinson, Glenn
Showers and John Thompson.

Community Centre on Oct. 3 for a hot turkey
dinner with all the trimmings.

Marie visited for a few days last week with
their cousins Mr. and Mrs. Charles Johnston
of Blyth and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse
of Belgrave.

Wingham attended the turkey fowl supper in
the Belgrave Community Centre on Wednes-
day evening. Following the supper they all
gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Edgar.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse spent
Saturday with their sister-in-law Mrs. Nor-
man Stonehouse of London.
Mr, and Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler were
guests with their cousins Mr. and Mrs.
Eugene McAdam at their cottage at Huron
Sands on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston, Tara and
Erin of Ilderton, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Leitch,
Julie and Jeff of London spent Thanksgiving
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby.
Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston, Tara and
Erin of !Merton visited on Thanksgiving day
with his mother, Laura Johnston.
Douglas Rieman of Kincardine spent the
weekend with his mother Agnes Bieman.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Procter and family
attended the Provincial Agricultural Picnic
held at Amhurstview, Ontario on Sept. 27.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, thrilled
the crowd with their relaxed and friendly
manner when they visited the picnic.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pletch returned home
last Thursday after spending a weeks
vacation with Mr. and Mrs. Max Pletch and
family of Dryden.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cortes of Tavistock
and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse were
dinner guests on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Harvey Edgar.

The market at Brussels Stockyards traded
on a strong demand with all classes of cattle
selling higher. Pigs sold barely steady. There
were 467 cattle and 850 pigs on offer.
Choice Steers -81.00 to 84.00 with sales to
87.50.
Good Steers -78.00 to 81.00.
A steer consigned by Gerald Ball of Embro
weighing 1130 lbs. sold for 87.50 with his
offering of 96 steers averaging 1103 lbs.

of R.R. 1, Kincardine averaging 1204 lbs.
sold for an overall price of 84.65 with sales to

Glenna Stephens, Marie McTaggart and
Peggy Cudmore of the Majestic Women's
Institute attended the Huron County Rally of
the Women's Institute at the United Church
in Wingham on Oct. 1.
Mrs. Jane Devries of Brussels has returned
home following a four week visit in Holland.
While there she attended a school reunion
where the youngest was 57 and the oldest was
in their late 80's. Jane attended from Canada,
while a gentleman attended from Oregon,
U.S.A.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin McLellan of Listowel
and Mrs. Emily Ansty of Toronto were supper
guests of Clem and Edna McLellan on Oct. 5.
They later attended the wedding of David
McLellan and Dianne Mole in Melville
Presbyterian Church. Friday night and
Saturday guests at the same home were Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Phillips and Mr. and Mrs.
Wayne Dickens of Hensail.

birthday party in Shelburne on Sept. 23 in
honor of the 75th birthday of his sister.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Dickson, Atwood,

Visiting Mrs, Gordon Engel on the
weekend were Sharon, Tracy and Susan

Eastern Ontario and Ottawa with his father
Huubert and his brother Herman who are
visiting from Holland.

Ag minister supports
hog stabilization
payment
Agriculture Minister Ralph Ferguson
recently announced Cabinet has approved a
stabilization payment under the Agricultural
Stabilization Act (ASA) for hogs marketed in
1983-84 at a support level of 95 per cent of the
previous five•year average price adjusted for
changes in cash costs
The total program cost is estimated at
559.1 million. Deficiency payments will be
restricted to hogs produced in Canada for
Canadian consumption and provincial pay-
ments will be deducted.
"The purpose of the stabilization program
is to assist producers by offsetting part of the
losses incurred during the past year." said
