Belgrave couple married 60 years

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Cook who observed
their 60th wedding anniversary on Septem-
ber 17, celebrated with a family dinner at the
Wingham Golf and Curling Club on Sunday.
They were married in Moorefield by the
late Rev. William Taylor, a cousin of the
bride.
They farmed at lot 40, concession seven,
East Wawanosh township until 1947 when
they moved to lot 38, concession six of East
Wawanosh township. In 1958 they moved to
Belgrave where they still reside.
They have two sons Eldon who lives on the
home farm and Robert of Shelburne. They
have six grandchildren and seven great
grandchildren.
Other guests at the celebration were Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Sturdy of Wingham, brother of
Mrs. Cook; Bertha Cook and Birdetta Rath,
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna all of Belgrave
and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Heywood of
Wingham.
CHURCH IN SOCIETY
The Church in Society committee convened
the general meeting of the Belgrave UCW in
the Knox United Church Sept. 27.
The guest speaker, Holly Reil spoke on
ways to assist a family where abuse and
violence were taking place. Some women
have suffered the battering for years before
being able to speak up. In Huron and Bruce
Counties alcohol plays a large part in the
violence.
Mrs. John G. Roberts, president, conduct-
ed the business.
Belgrave will be in charge of the worship
service for the Rally at Fordwich on Oct. 10.
The ten Korean women visiting Canada on
the exchange program will be guests at the
evening program Oct. 5 in Mitchell United
Church.
Alison Coultes sang a solo accompanied by
her mother at the piano.
Mrs. Ross Anderson, Mrs. Harold Vincent
and Mrs. Jack Taylor took part in the
Thanksgiving worship service.
CELEBRATES 95TH
Etta Cook of the Maitland Manor Nursing
Home, Goderich celebrated her 95th birthday
on Sept. 24, at the hpme of her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Walker of
Goderich.
Othei members of her family attending
were Mr, and Mrs. Ross Robinson of Auburn,
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Crawford of Goderich,
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cook, Mr. and Mrs.
Garner Nicholson of Belgrave.
Mrs. Cook Received a plaque from the
Province of Ontario; a letter of congratula-
tions from the Governor-General of Canada;
Murray Cardiff, MP; and Prime Minister
Brian Mulroney.

Mr: and Mrs. Jim Baker and Mark of
London visited on Saturday at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. George Michie,
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby visited on the
weekend with Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston
and family of Ilderton, Mr. and Mrs. Gary
Leitch and family of London and Mr. and
Mrs. Cecil Armstrong of Thorndale.
Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Jamieson of Wing -
ham, Mr. and Mrs. David Lennox of Listowel
and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna returned
home on Thursday after a four-day motor trip
to Agawa Canyon, Sault Ste. Marie.
Fraser Haugh and daughters Eileen of
Bluevale and Isabel of St. Thomas were
dinner guests on Saturday with Mrs. Leslie
Bolt.

The third meetingof Walton 1 4-H club on
Fitness Fare was hed Monday evening at the
Walton hall:
The meeting was opened by president Tara
McKelvie. embers went over the home
activities from last week, did the 1600 metre
test, and filled out a quiz in their books.
The name chosen for the club is "Flexible
Friends",
The group prepared chili and coleslaw. The
food was enjoyed after the meeting.
PERSONALS
Mr. and Mrs. Roll Achilles returned home
on Friday from a four week motor trip to
Hearst where they visited their sister-in-law
Della Achilles. She went on with them to
Souix Narrows where they visited her son and
family and Rolly's sister May Haight.
Kathy Humphries of London spent the
weekend with her grandmother. Mary
Humphries.
Dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Ken
McDonald following the christening of their
grandson Scott James McDonald were Mr,
and Mrs, Rick McDonald and family. Walton;

The first meeting of Brussels 111 4-H club.
Bits and Bites was held at the Brussels library
on Sept. 12.
Leader is Nancy Exel. Election of officers
were as follows: president. Cherida Garniss:
vice-president. Clinton 'Garniss; secretary.
Glenda Carter. press reporter. Ron Steven-
son Other members of the club are Craig
Workman, Kery Bauer, Kelly Bauer, Gerald
Knight, and John Steffler.
Members talked about what they were
going to do throughout the course.
The second meeting was held Sept. 25 at
the Brussels library, The group worked on
their booklets on computer jargon and how a
computer works, Kelly Bauer gave a
demonstration of a Vic -20.
For home assignment members are to do a
quiz on how a computer works.

An open house was held for Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Watson on Sunday in honor of their 60th
wedding anniversary.
Held in the Walton United Church, the
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Nixon of Cambridge
and Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Nixon and family of
Waterloo were guests at the home of John
Nixon on Sunday.
Nance Warren of Sidney, Australia visited
with Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Walsh this
weekend.
Rev. and Mrs. John Thomas of McMaster
University, Hamilton were dinner guests at
the home of the Rev. and Mrs. John Roberts
on Sunday.
Euchre for the winter months will resume
Oct. 10 at 8:00 p.m. in the Belgrave Wi Hall.

munity Centre Board had the draw for the
prizes, with the proceeds to go towards the
new ball diamond lights.

speaker Rev. John Thomas, McMaster
University, Hamilton.

Gerald and Berva Watson followed. Their
