Golfing one of the g's of October
BY CAROLANNIE DOIG
Not another month gone by? Yes the month
of goblins, ghosts and ghouls is here. Why
not add golf to that list of October " g"s7
It's bound to warm up for a little while and
after last weekend. even a 15 would feel good
Sometimes it's hard to get enthused about
golf at this time of year. Though the course is
in good shape we know our games are just
about done for the season and it's just a
matter of time until the clubs are put away
until Apr.
Some golfers will be fortunate enough to
take a golf vacation this winter and the clubs
will come out again. Golf holidays can be so
much fun when you play well, but they can be
a painful experience when you spend all that
money and then back,
If you let yourself get out of shape until
Jan. and then try to shoot sizzling scores
down south, you'll be very disappointed.
Extra pounds and unused muscles result in a
swing far different than in July. The best
defence, of course, is to stay in shape during
the winter, keeping the weight down and the
flexibility up. Not only will you be able -to
'ewer your summer clothes in the south, but
you'll look, feel, and play better too.
The current fitness craze has made
opportunities for keeping fit easy to utilize.
Take advantage of fitness programs in your
area by attending classes designed for men,

Walton girls
WOAA champs
The Winthrop Squirt Girls captured the
WOAA Squirt Girls Championship recently
after defeating Chepstow in three straight
games in the finals. They had previously
defeated Ripley in three straight to get to the
championship round.
Earlier in the year the Winthrop team was
declared Tri -County champions after they
defeated Clinton in tfie final In fwii-abhight
games. hi games preceeding that matchup,
they had twice defeated both Belmore and
Wingham.
Still time to sign up
Anyone who missed the registration and
information nights held recently by the
Seaforth recreation department will still be
able to sign up for the programs of their
choice.
Registration forms and information can
still be obtained through the recreation
department.
We realize that there are things that
people do that might've made it impossible
for them to attend the registration and
information nights that we set up. We won't
turn anyone away who would still like to
register," said Bryan Peter, recreation
director.
Mr. Peter said both nights were well
attended and estimated most programs took
in 80 per cent of their total registration.
"1 think all the groups with booths set up
were pleased with the number of people who
turned up," said Mr. Peter.
He said that even the booths that were set
up strictly for information purposes were well
attended.

women, young and old. If you're a bit shy and
want to get started on your own, visit the book
store for a variety of exercise books written
just for you. Playing winter sports or even
indoor summer sports will keep you in shape
for the coming summer too.
Face itl We have long winters here and the
longer you sit around waiting for spring, the
wider you'll get. Enjoying the winter makes it
go faster and before you know it you'll be
golfing again.
The mixed 2 -ball planned for 2 p.m. this
Saturday is of bourse, weather permitting.
However, the people signed up are few in -
number and unless some golfers call the
pro shop and indicate their intent to play, the
final event of the year may well be cancelled.

Golf team ' seventh
The Seaforth District High School (SDHS)
boys golf team rallied to a seventh place
finish in the Western Ontario Secondary
School Association (WOSSA)'s Golf
Championship held last week at Woodstock
Craigowan,
The finish was especially gratifying for
the team since they had finished a
disappointing fourth in the annual Huron -
Perth championship.
Twenty-six teams from Western Ontario
competed for the, WOSSA championship.
The SDHS boys defeated all of the Huron
Perth schools and lost only to Sarnia
Northern, Tillsonburg Glendale and four
London high schools.
In individual games, Jerry Wright shot a
78 to finish fifth overall. Other members of
the team were Todd Doig, Ray Anstett and
Dave Campbell.
