Katirnavik group will host
The 12 members of the Katimavik group
are inviting the community of Seaforth to
attend their open house at Scott's farm. This
is to provide Seaforth a chance to meet and
talk to the members of the group with the
hopes of allowing the community to know
exactly what Katimavik is all about.
Scott's farm is located on the outskirts of
Seaforth on McKillop sideroaj 30. The doors
will open at 6:30 • 9.
Kpimavik is a national volunteer youth
group working in the Seaforth district.
•Erwin Seabrook, Saskatoon, Sask.. And
Lori Haines, Deer Lake, Newfoundland are
working at St, .lames School in Seaforth.
Also at the Seaforth and the Walton Public
open house.
Schools are Paul Bannister, Chester. Nova
Scotia; Melissa Hart, Medicine Hat, Alberta;
Louise Bertrand, Ottawa, and Lianne Bur-
gess, Montreal, Quebec working.
In both of these places, these people help ip
any way to give teachers more time to deal
with students on a more personal\ level.
At the Tuckersmith Day Care Centre, two
people assist with the little ones. Katim'ivik•
ers are Marie Andree Walcot from Montreal,'
Quebec and Jean Mark Jodry from Hamilton,
Tim McNamara, Parry Sound; Chris
Lukovis, King City; Denis Marton, Edmund-
ston, New Brunswick; and Tim Butler,
Parksvills, British Columbia are out at the
Mullett Conservation Site helping to make the
site a great refuge for all animals,

popular of late and during the past few years°
the number of people searching for their
origins has grown tremendously. More
people each year are seeking help in locating
lost" families.
Many are well aware of the increasing
"addiction" to searching for one's roots but
there are so many places to search, so many
things to look for.
The Huron County Branch of the Ontario
Genealogical Society is holding their 5th.

of Brussels. Following the cercmonr a
reception was held at Seaforth, and Distriol
Community Centres. The couple are now
residing at R.R. 2 Staffa.

21. 1984. 'rhe bride is the daughter of Mr, and
Mrs, George Van Steelandt of Dublin and the
groom is the son of Mrs. Jean Hyde and the
late Melvin Hyde of Shakespeare. Maid of
Honor was Ricki Van Steelandt, sister-in-law
to the bride and the bridesmaid was Tanya
Van Steelandt, the bride's niece and
god -child. Roy McKay of Mitchell was the
best man and the usher was Archie Goosens.

Annual Genealogical workshop on Saturday.
September 22, 1984 at the Canadian Legion
Hall in Goderich. Lectures by guest speakers
will cover a variety of topics of interest and
benefit to all. There will also be sales and
display tables and of course, Anyone with
problen(ts is welcome to quiz the members, a
number of whom have been doing genealogi-
cal research for forty odd years and have a lot
of answers. So bring your problems along;

Bottle Gardens
shown at meeting
The Seaforth Horticultural Society held
their Sept. meeting at the Seaforth Public
School on Wednesday with several area
societies attending,
Fred Prescod from Royal Botanical
Gardens, Hamilton, demonstrated .planting
terrariums and bottle gardens. Mr. Prescod
gave some helpful hints and showed how to
make tools for planting.
The Oct. meeting will be held at the Van
Egmond house on Oct, 10 at 8 p.m. Fran
Hook will demonstrate applehead doll
making.
VALERIE JOHNSTON of R.R. 2, Bluevale
was chosen Queen of the Furrow al the Hurun
County Plowing Match last week. She was
' crowned by Lynn Dodds, last year's Queen.
legion ladies attend provincial command
Last week tour of our ladies from the
Seaforth Legion Ladies Auxiliary attended
the Ontario Provincial Command in Niagara
Falls.
President Thelma Coombs, 1st Vice Pres.
Pat Shellenberger, Sgt -at -Arms Olave Little
and P.R.O. Barbara Scott were those
attending There were 1,619 ladies regis-
tered. Thel parade on Sunday was very
impressive with 327 flags on parade.
Auxiliary business was on the agenda at the
meetings every day and a full report will be
given at the October meeting. Elections
were held with the following results: Gloria
Sanford is our new 1'restdent, 1st Vice Pres.
Maxine Jarczak, 2nd Vice Pres. Evelyn
Carroll, 3rd Vice Pres. Phyllis Montemiglio.,
Hon, Treas. Audrey Wilson. Chairman Mary
Desjardins. The Auxiliary Bursary was
discussed and is now under the Legion and
Ladies Auxiliary Charitable Foundation
guidance.
Comrade Mary Blackwell, President of the
Alberta and N.W. Territories Command and
her 1st Vice Pres. were guests at the
convention and brought greeting from their
command. Also in attendance was Jim
Tyndall. President Ontario Provincial Com-
mand and hivfull executive. He said he was
very impressed with the parade especially all
the colors and with the efficient way we the
ladies run our conventions.
Presentations were made to some of the
older members by their branches, one to a
lady who joined the Auxiliary in 1927.
This coming Saturday the Auxiliary will be
going on our annual bus trip leaving
Seaforth promptly at 8:30 a.m.
The next meeting will be held on October
3rd at 8:00 p.m.
