Cromarty Boy Scouts organize year

Lillian . Douglas was hostess for the
Cromarty WMS Sept. meeting at her home
on Friday. Following Dorothy Miller's poem,
Mrs. Douglas conducted devotions. Hymns
were accompanied by Muriel Scott on the
autoharp.
Together in Mission was the theme of the
study book session planned by Edna
Stoneman. Taking part were Dorothy Miller,
Betty Dow, Hazel Harburn, Muriel Scott and
Lillian Douglas. A crossword puzzle activity
brought together information presented
during the five study book sessions.
Agnes Lamond's topic, Let Nothing Be
Lost was given by Lila McKaig. Muriel Scott
conducted a quiz.
Plans were made for the Oct. inee'tidg
when Mrs. Ralph Adair of Monkton will be
the Presbyterial visitor.
Lila McKaig was surprised when mem-
bers sang Happy Birthday, followed by
birthday cake with ice cream.
BOY SCOUTS MAKE PLANS
With Bill Mahon presiding, the group
committee for the 1st Cromarty Boy Scout
Organization met in Cromarty church
basement Wednesday evening to make
plans for the coming year.
Bill Cameron will lead the Scouts, Rhea
Cameron, the Cubs, and the new leaders for
the Beavers• will be Twyla Waddell and.
Margaret Schrader. Apple Day this year will
be held on the last Saturday in Oct.
All meetings will be held from 3:30 to 5:30
p.m., with the Cubs meeting in Cromarty
church on Mondays, the Scouts in Cromarty
on Tuesdays, and the 'Beavers in Hibbert'
United Church every Tuesday.
Registration of the boys- will be held at
Cromarty Presbyterian Church on Sept. 20 at
8 p.m. Again this year, part of the
registration fee will be, paid by the Cromarty
Scout Organization, It is very important that
parents of the boys attend this meeting.
Volunteer members for the group commit-
tee are urgently needed.
PCnomination set for October
There has been no Official word of a
provincial election yet, the Perth Progressive
Conservative Riding Association has an-
nounced that it is in the process of making
arrangements for an Oct. 4 candidate
nomination meeting.

The Perth PC riding association president,
Vince Judge of Listowel, said late last week
that the provincial nomination meeting is
tentatively slated for Oct, 4 at the Stratford
fairgrounds.

The Huron Soil and Crop Improvement
Association is looking for landowners and
tenants who have managed their farms to
conserve soil, water and other natural
resources through various conservation prac-
tices: The Soil and Crop Improvement
Association is recognizing such individuals
with the Norman Alexander Conservation
Award. Established in 1980, the award
• named after Norman Alexander for his work
in conservation has recognized individuals
John Hazlett, Don Lobb, Whyte Brothers,
and Bert Visscher.
The Association is currently seeking
nominations for the award and over the next
§everal weeks will be visiting nominees to
select 'the recipient of the award in 1984.
I know there are many deserving indivi-
duals in Huron who could be nominated for
the award. If you know of someone in your
area, I'm 'sure that individual would be
honored to be nominated.
Nominations must be received over the
next couple of weeks, since selection for the
award is done in September.
We would be pleased to receive your
nomination at the Clinton, Ontario Ministry
of Agriculture and Food office.
Public aware
A new form of recognition has been
established by the•Emergeney Cardiac Care
of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario
which will commend the efforts of anyone
trained in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscita-
tion) for his/her attempts at providing a
lifesaving act.
Any member of the public who is a
graduate of the Heart and Stroke Foundation
of Ontario Heart Saver or Basic Rescuer
course is eligible for the new Lifesaver
Award. •
The Award will recognize that prompt

response w as initiated by an individual at the
first sigds of a life threatening event and that
appropriate actions were taken by that
individual. which provided a chance of
survival for the victim. •
By providing this form of recognition, the
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario
hopes to further create public awareness of
the fact That in an emergency cardiac
situation, help must be provided immediately
and that public training in CPR is beneficial in
learning what help to provide and how to do
it.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Shortreed, London
and Miss Mary McNable, Toronto visited
with Wilfred Shortreed and Margaret on
Thursday, they all attended the Blyth
Festival that evening to see Country Hearts.
Viola Kirkby attended the Machan -Robin-
son wedding in Oshawa recently.
A large number of people from this area
attended the open house and dance in the
Seaforth and District Community Centres on
Friday evening to honor Stewart and Mary
McCall on their 40th wedding anniversary,

the nine girls present. Members checked
through the books and talked about foods to
cat. Everyone checked their pulse rale.
A cheese and bacon loaf was demmn-
straied. For the home assignment members
arc to work on a bingo game in their hooks
and to mark off what they eat for breakfast.
Members are to make and bring a
sandwich to the next meeting on Mondas
night at the same place. Also think of a club
name to he brought to the next meeting,
