The sun is finally shining and the rain has
stopped for a few days according to the
weatherman. We sure do hope so, as the
farmers have become quite anxious to
harvest their beans and also begin tatting off
their corn for silage.
1 he past few weeks of sudden temperature
changes has made it necessary to make
drastic wardrobe changes. The sun dress',
shorts and bathing suits have been replaced
with suits, jackets, jogging suits and woolly
sweaters.
The youngsters are on cloud nine these
days as the Wish Book has arrived and no
doubt the corners of the pages are by now all
dog eared from excessive use. Who ever
picked the name "Wish ,Book", sure knew
what he was doing.
From now until Christmas the children
wish for all those new toys, clothes and
gadgets. They daydream and,fantasize about
the fun they will have with all these necessary
iterns which appear on each page that they
just simply cannot live without. This routine
goes on for the next three months and by Dec.
the list is about three pages long and believe
me when one looks at that. they label the
Wish Book a 'Nightmare'. •
It is very difficult to visualize the thoughts
of Christmas being only three months away,
especially when the grass is so green and the
sunny. warm.days have returned. The leaves
on the trees are just beginning to show signs
of changing colour and the days are getting
shorter -while the evenings are becoming
colder.
All these events point only in one
direction, winter and the completion of -
another year. Whoever said time flies was
quite right in his time but with all our new
found technology and with the help of modern
mans inventive genius, one could safely say
that today, time just zooms by.
SAW THE POPE
This weekend, Pope John Paul 11 was in
Toronto ,and Midland and a number of local
residents went to see him. Those• who
travelled to Midland on Saturday were Mrs.
Jean Ryan, Mary Coyne, Dorothy Delaney
and Julie Van Bakel.
Helen Krauskopf, Margaret Looby, John,
Joe and Mary -Jo, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Looby
and Anita and Katherine Looby, Maureen
and Martha attended the Mass celebrated by
Pope John Paul iI at Downsview. Mr. and
Mrs. Jack O'Rourke and Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Cronin saw the Pope as he left Toronto City
Hall and Nathan Phillips Square where he fit
the Peace Flame.
For all those who attended any of the above
locations, each were of the same opinion that
this was truly a momentus occasion in their
life. It is very difficult to describe in words the
deep emotional feeling experienced by the
crowds and those in attendance.
