In fact, the noise lasted for three days. The thunder and lightning awoke many people from a sound sleep, only for them to witness torrential rains, high winds and occasional hail. We were..very' fortunate to have escaped any serious damage to property in the community as a number of trees and large limbs came down. ' This column was not to be weather oriented, instead it was to be centered in the start of another school year - the beginning of school or college for some and the final year for others, For the wee folk starting school is so exciting, their enthusiasm is so enjoyable to see. I don't know whether the excitement is with the classroom atmosphere, new books and new teacher or if it is with their new sneakers, new school outfit, the new school bag and of course the brand new lunch box. Remember that the lunch box is considered the kids survival kit. Its contents must keep up their strength for recess and lunch hour when they play and play and play. (That is hard work you know - it makes me' tired just watching.) For teens, the first day of school is the day they model the newest in fashion that they worked all summer to acquire. It's the day slipped, their mend for more important things. For the college and university crowd it's time to get back to work, toet ones nose to the grind and cram and study and of course do a bit off "bird watching". Young. adults must seek out their direction in life and make that their ultimate goal. It sounds rather dull but one must not forget that they are not at home as they now reside at the campus and no doubt that must make for some very, interesting times, There is one more group who are more emotionally affected by the first days of school than the students - and that's mom and dad. They have finally gotten used to the last two months of noise, confusion and sibling rivalry and now it's time for the house to return to that longed for peace and quiet. Everyone gets back to a schedule -- up at 7:00, meals on time, instead of lunch all day long and no sleeping in. When the first .wee tot goes to school, moms and dads are so proud as their child is growing up, but when baby goes to school its devastating. At our house the time has come, after 17 years and six pair of little feet -- baby goes to school. At first 1 thought of all the things that I would do when there would be no interruptions; all the sewing and reading I would do, But, how does one bake cookies they see all their old chums and renew their without those trusty little hands in the way; friendships and it is also the day the girls how does one read without someone to ready look over the fellows and approve or to; how does one sew without stopping to get disapprove and visa versa.
