WOMEN'S INSTITUTE NEWS
The Majestic Women's Institute of Brus•
sels held their picnic on Wednesday July 11 at
the home of Doris McCall. Peggy Cudmore
presided over a short business period.
It was decided to reimburse John Cousins
for the use of his store for "Drop -in -centre"
during the Bicentennial week. Mrs. Cudmore
thanked all who helped out with the
celebrations.
Marie McTaggart, Mrs, Alex McLeod and
Peggy Cudmore are a committee in charge of
finding a candidate to sponsor for the Queen
of the Fair Contest.
Anyone who can give lodging and break•
fast to Institute members who will be
attending the Area Convention to be held in
Brussels on Oct. 18 are Asked to contact Doris
McCall.
A 5400 special fund was set up'to be used to
purchase a piano for the library. Anyone
knowing of a good used piano for sale to get in
touch with Mrs. Lyle Brothers.
Ruby Steiss had charge of the contests
assisted by Leona Armstrong. Winners of the
contests were Laura Lucas, Mrs, Cecil
Moore, Ethel Long, Leona Connelly and
Peggy Cudmore.
The next meeting will be held on Sept. 12 at
8 p.m. Everyone is to be sure and bring their
handbook.
TAPE CALLS
The Brussels Fire Department has purch-
ased a tape recorder that will tape any
incoming calls on the Brussels Fire -Phone

on July 24.

The market at Brussels Stockyards traded
actively with all classes of quality cattle and
pigs traded at higher prices. There were 875
cattle and 843 pigs on offer.

IT RAINED SUNDAY at the Pickin' in the
Park In Brussels, but that didn't stop people
from enjoying blue grass and country and
western music. Sponsored by the Optimist
club, the show featured three bands and two
side acts. Over 200 attended the event, but
when the rain came, only the steadies stayed

The family of Mr. and Mrs. Stuart
Stevenson had a pork barbecue and garage
dance at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Stevenson on June 30. This was the occasion
of Stuart and Eleanor's 35th wedding
anniversary. Approximately 100 attended.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Strickler, Mr. and
Mrs, John Vanass and fancily and David and
Shelley Strickler attended the 80th birthday
party for Margaret Waddell and the 25th
wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Waddell on July 8, at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Keith Murray, Dublin.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stevens of Watford and
Mr. and Mrs. Henk Stevens of Holland
visited on Sunday with John and Nancy
Vanass.
The grade 13 class of 66 students at
Listowel District Secondary School had 24
students who attained Ontario Scholar status.
Each will receive 5100 from the Government
of Ontario. Congratulations to Julie Mac-
Donald. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Graeme
MacDonald, RR 2, Brussels, who graduated
with 87.3 per cent.

Over 70 descendants of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Ina Campbell held a fancily picnic at the
home of Bruce and Linda Campbell and sons
on July 8.
During the afternoon, a relative shooter
