DUBLIN AND AREA
Bicycle parade in Dublin has 36 entries

This was just another fabulous week as far
as the weather was concerned. The bright
sunny days made two things brown - the sun
bathers and the (awns. Each week that goes
by between now and fall, we see so many
wonderful changes.
If you drive through the farming areas you
can see the different grains fill out "and
change color in readiness for harvest; you
can see the beans blossom and grow and as
September draws near the leaves turn from
green to yellow making themselves ready for
the combine to swoop them up. The corn
fields act like fortress walls when growing
around buildings as they tower over one's
head.
It's a pleasant sound in the quiet of the
late evening to listen to the rustle of the corn
stalks as the long narrow leaves stretch
towards the sky and sip from the evening
dew. In the villages and towns and cities the
hustle and the bustle of the traffic and its
peoples lends way to an evening stroll or a
leisurely bike ride to get some of that super.
fresh air.
.We all live in such a beautiful province
with so much to see and experience. The
summer holidays will soon be half over for
the school children as time goes by so
quickly. Enjoy life today for tomorrow comes
but too soon. See the treasures that lie in our
heritage and observe our communities
history in the making.
DUBL]NFEST HAS GOOD WEATHER
Dublinfest was held at the park on
Saturday and what a perfect day for It. There
were 36 entries in the children',s bicycle
parade and each bicycle was truly a work of
art.
The Lions Club were very busy as they fed
approximately 300 at the pork barbecue in
the evening.

Liberal commission forming
Women have a more important political
function than just licking stamps, Employ-
ment and Immigration Minister John Roberts
told the founding meeting of the Perth
Women's Liberal Commission.
The also-ran in the recent Liberal leader-
ship campaign said women can work at every
level of the. party. There 'were about 20
women, representing a wide age group at the
formation meeting July 5 in Stratford,
Mr. Roberts said that about 1600 women,
about half, were delegates at the June
leadership convention. This comparesoto
about 400 women delegates in 1968.
"This relects a shift that must take place,"
said the'•federal minister.
He said this is an exciting time for women
to enter the political process. "The next few
days, few weeks will set the course of politics
into the next century."
The women formed a founding committee.
Mary Hill of Stratford, will formulate the
direction the women's commission should
take. •
Th'is basic committee from Perth County,
along with Heather Redick of RR 2, Zurich in
the federal riding of Huron•Bruce will put
these ideas together over the summer
months. The commission's first formal
meeting is expected to be held in Sept.
Mrs. Hill said it is possible that the Perth
Women's Commission may unite forces with
a similar group in Huron County. There is
presently no such commission in Huron but
Mrs. Hill said the commission doesn't have to
follow political boundaries,
"The stated purpose of the Women's
Liberal Commission is to provide a forum for
women to promote a better society by
developing an awareness of political issues
and policies among Canadian women and to
increase their active participation at all levels
of the Liberal Party of Canada," states the
guidelines used to form the commission.
The guidelines identify the Affirmative
Action Policy as an available tool to bring
about necessary changes. Women's commis-
sions are another tool identified.
"Working together, women can provide a
strong presence in the political arena and
ensure that their collective voice is heard on
every elected body in the (Liberal) party and
in the government," concludes the guide-
lines. .
The women forming the founding commit-
tee are Mrs. Hill, Sue Clarke, Ruth Neilson
and Lauren Armstrong all of Stratford and
Elizabeth Willems of Mitchell and Kathryn
McCotter of St. Marys.

DRAINAGE PAYS OFF
in drought prevention
Good drainage promotes root growth as plants reach for the capillary water in
the soil. in undrained land, capillary water is available only near the surface so
root systems are shallow.
When dry weather arrives, shallow roots cannot supply enough water to the
plant to keep it healthy. Deep rooted crops also withstand wind and stand better
at maturity as well.
