Donations
Donations were made to a number of
groups at a recent meeting of the Seaforth
Women's Institute.
The Seaforth Santa Claus Parade, Huron
Day Care Centre for Homebound, Huron
County Children's Family Services, Child-
ren's Hospital of Western Ontario, London
and leaders of three 4-H dubs were recipients
of the Institute's generosity.
Mrs, Gordon Elliott was hostess for the
meeting. Mary Nolan read the poem "In
Flander's Fields."
Winona Pipe and Anona Crozier reported
on the Workshop for Curators held at
Holmesville, Allison Lobb had spoken on

Mrs. H. MacKenzie gave the Fall Rally
report prepared by Mrs. G. Doig.
Suzanne Alton was the winner of the Huron
W omen's Institute scholarship. Congratula-
tions to Brenda De Jong who has completed
24, 4-H Homemaking projects. The 1986
Rally will be held in Walton, Tuesday,
November26, 7 p.m. is the 9-H Achievement
night in Clinton,
Mrs. G. Elliott and Mrs. M. Nolan were in
charge of the program. The Christmas
meeting will be held December 10 at 6:30
p.m. at the Orange Hall.
Institutes are active
Throughout the past year the Women's
institutes of , the London Area (Elgin,
Middlesex, Oxford, Huron and Perth South)
have been actively pursuing their motto of
"For Home and Country" . in their rural
communities.
Among the highlights of the year:
-The branches have donated nearly
$100,000 to various charities and organiza-
tions in their communities, This does not
include the hours spent in voluntary help to
nursing homes, 4-H clubs,, museums, hospi-
tals and other community groups.
-Many district and branches have scholar-
ships, including the three Maryn Pardy
scholarships from the London Area.
-Nine Women Institute members in the
London Area were honored by thg Ontario
Government with Bicentennial' medals for
service to their communities.
-Many branches and districts planted the
Bicentennial White Pines for their rural
communities to have in the future. Other
branches had special Bicentennial displays
for their communities,
-London Area was the host to the
Federated Women's Institutes of Canada
triennial Conference. Over 1,300 women
from all over Canada participated including
Dr. Ellen McLean, a member who is head of
The Associated Country Women of the
World.
-Members have been active in leading 4-H
clubs, leading and promoting OMAF
courses, helping in schools, having local
resolutions to local councils, having speakers
on current issues and helping any person or
group who needs assistance.

Bechtel. The bride is the daughter of Betty
and Frank Thompson of RR. 2, Bayfield and

Beer of Clinton. Maid of Honor was Gail Clark
of RR 2, Bayfield, and bridesmaids were
Nancy Thompson of RR 2, Bayfield, and
Christine Stangen of Kitchener. Best man
was Mike Stangen of Kitchener and ushers
were Dennis Thompson and Den Clark, both
of RR 2, Bayfield. Following a wedding
reception at the Benmiller Inn the couple are
now residing in Clinton.
