Alexanders celebrate their 50th

Stan and Helen Alexander celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary at an open
reception held at the Atwood Community
Centre, on Friday, November 15.
Jim Knight, their son-in-law was master
of ceremonies. A reading was Head by Lois
Alexander and Darlene Raynard. The family
was introduced and Stan and Helen both
thanked everyone. ,Guests were present from
High River, Alberta, Goderich, Exeter,
Listowel and London.
November 16 a family dinner was held at
the Golden Barrel in Listowel. Guests were
Stan and Helen Alexander, Bob and Joyce
Alexander and family of Ethel, John and
Lois Alexander High River, Alberta, Joe
Raynard and family, Bluevale and Jim and
Dona Knight and family of Brussels.
LODGE HAS BANQUET
The Morning Star Rebekah Lodge enter-
tained the Warden of The Rebekah
Assembly of Ontario and other Assembly
officers and distinguished guests and
members of Rebekah Lodges of District. No.
23 to a banquet held in St. Johns Anglican
Church Hall,
District Deputy President Leona Connelly
presided and introduced the head table
guests. Noble Grand Barb Watts thanked
the ladies for the meal. Bev Cardiff replied
for the ladies.
Officers of Goderich Rebekah Lodge No.
89 did the opening ceremonies of the regular
meeting. Noble Grand Barb Watts welcomed
everyone.
Special introductions for the officers of
Rebekah Assembly of Ontario, Musician
Kay Wise, District Deputy President Leona
Connelly, Warden Sylvia Evans were made
by Vera Hastings and Marguerite Crawford.
Reports and business were conducted by
the Noble Grand officers of Huronic Lodge
No. 306. Clinton entertained with a very
impressive Tableau '`lighting The Candle."
Millie Cox sang and Sharon Freeman and
Nelva Scott accompanied by Jean Ireland
also sang. Short addresses were given by
Warden Sylvia Evans, Musician, Kay Wise,
D.D. Grand Master E. Cox, Past Grand
Master, John Bmadfoot, Noble Grands of
Goderich and Clinton Lodges. The Goderich
officers performed the dosing ceremonies.
Barbara Nichol and her committee served
lunch to the 75 people present.
LEGION BRANCH 218
On November 11, 10:30 a.m, a service was
held by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch
218 at the Brussels Cenotaph. A good crowd
attended on the cold but sunny morning,
Murray Elston laid the wreath for the
Province of Ontario and Bob Fraser for the
legion. Other wreaths were laid including;

Bruce McCall. Comrade C.E. Elliott was
presented with his life membership for all
his faithful wwrik in the legion. Three first
World War Veterans in attendance received
Diamond Jubilee Plaques. They were Fred
Thuell, Jim Bremner and Cliff Dunbar.
Diamond Jubilee medals were presented to
Tom MacFarlane, Ross Duncan, Russ Hall,
Tom Garniss, Ross Bennett, Ted Elliott.
Dave Miller received his 40 year pin and
those receiving their 25 yearpins were; Cliff
Dunbar, Norm Jarvis, Alvin Logan, Jim
McNeil, Forrest Whittard, George McW hin-
ter, Archie Willis and Charlie Thomas.
Ten Year Associate pins were presented
to; Bill Alcock, Ken Alcock, Murray Alcock,
Ross Alcock, Marg Bennett, Barb Dunbar,
Bob Greer, Gerald Rutledge, Gordon
Rutledge and John Rutledge.
The Ladies Auxiliary presented Doreen
Rutledge with her 35 year pin and Helen
Dobson and Mabel Willis with their
certificates of merit.
Kathy Burkholder presented MWO Pat
Currie of the cadets with a certificate of
appreciation for the Poppy campaign.
A very moving event in the signing of the
articles of faith by the dignitaries and each
Legion and Ladies Auxiliary member there
took place.

The Majestic Women's Institute of
Brussels met on Wednesday afternoon in the
library. The president, Peggy Cudmore,
presided. A moments silence was observed
in memory of the late Lula Kerr, who had
been a WI member for many years.
Leona Armstrong and Margaret McLeod,
convenors of Education and Cultural Activ-
ities, were in charge of the program. Leona
Armstrong introduced the guest speaker.
Debbie Selkirk,, of Lucknow, who spoke on
"Wife Abuse and Family Violence." The
motto "Sharing is Giving" was given by
Leona Armstrong.
Kathy Bridge and Joan Jacobs will be the
leaders for the Home Decorating Course.

Morris calls moratorium
Morris Township council endorsed a
motion calling for a moratorium on all farm
foreclosures in Huron County, at their
November 1 regular meeting. Copies of the
resolution, submitted by the Huron County
Federation of Agriculture, will be sent to
Murray Elston, MPP for Huron -Bruce and
the Minister of Agriculture and Food. Jack
Riddell.
The meeting was the first to be held in the
township's new municipal building and
council passed a motion to pay bills totalling
$120, resulting from the official opening on
October 19. Expenses from the festivities
were as follows: Rev. John Roberts. $20;
Donald Dunbar, music, $20; George Cull,
soloist, $20: and the Johnson Family
Dancers, $60.
In other business:
Council agreed to grant $100 to the
Brussels Santa Claus Parade for 1985.
Council approved a tile drain loan applica-
tion for Neil Hemingway. subject to the
availability of funds.
Dave Abbott from Ontario Hydro attended,
to review the proposed hydro transmission
line route with the council.
A report was given to the council from Joe
Gibson, concerning trees to be removed at
Lot 11. Concession 6 in the township. Mr.
Gibson reported a small area of trees was
being removed at present, with his permis-
sion, but an application for a larger parcel is
being submitted for an amendment to the
Huron County Tree Cutting By-law.
Council gave their endorsement and total
support to a resolution submitted by the
Town of Durham.
The motion concerned strikes by secondary
school teachers in Wellington and Grey
Counties and copies were forwarded to the
Association of Municipalities, Murray Elston
and the Minister of Education.
A grant of $100 was given to the Bluevale
Cemetery for 1985.
An amendment to the Official Plan for the
Town of Wingham was presented to council,
to allow for additional parking and expansion
of the McBurney Funeral Home. The council
had no objections or comments.
A bylaw was passed after final readings, to
transfer $105,000 from reserves to the
working funds for the 1985 year.
Lloyd Michie, road superintendent, asked
the council for their thoughts on purchasing a
two-way radio for the office and shelving for
the office in the works garage. Council gave
the go-ahead for both projects, providing
funds are available in the remaining budget.
The council discussed the payment of the
poll workers for the November 12 election.
The council felt they should be paid $6.65 per
hour, plus mileage.
The inaugural session of the new Township
of Morris Council will be held on December 2,
at 11 a.m.
Mrs. Glenn Coultes was in charge of the
worship part of the meeting. Mrs. Jim Hunter
the Bible study and Janisa Coultes the study
of Korea. Mrs. Anderson closed with prayer.
EUCHRE RESULTS
Nine tables were in play at the weekly
euchre which was held in the Women's
Institute Hall Wednesday November 13.
Winners were: High Lady, Gertrude Allen;
low lady, Mrs. Lorne Jamieson; Novelty
Lady, Olive Bolt; high man, William Black;
low man, Mrs. Lawrence Taylor (playing as a
man) and novelty man, Albert Cook.
There will be euchre again this Wednesday
starting at 8 p.m.
Everyone is welcome.
