The Huron Expositor, 1985-11-13, Page 17BUILDING RENOVATED — The Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, on Goderich Street In Seaforth, has undergone an extensive series of .renovations since taken over by Ross Rlbey. The latest of these improvements is an enclosed foyer -entranceway which runs the length of the front of the building. Mr. Ribey said the enclosure was built mainly to seal off the entrance from the elements. Other Improvements over the past ten years Include interior redesign and an expanded parking lot and garage. The enclosure Is the latest In a series of renovations that have taken place since Mr, Ribey purchased the building In 1975. Business expands With the recent completion of an enclosed foyer -entranceway. The Whitney- Ribey Fu- neral Home, in Seaforth, has added another step in a continuing series of renovations to the building on (kderich Street Proprietor, Koss Ribey, who purchased the business fmm G A W hitney in 1975, said the foyer was added to protect visitors to the home from the elements, as they enter. Mr Hihey got his start in the funeral home business in 1967. with Taylor Funeral Homes. in Sutton. before moving on to another funeral parlor in Acton, where he worked until coming to Seaforth The purchase of the Seaforth business, which had been operated at the current site ever since 1950. when Mr Whitney moved his operation there from Main Street. marked a return to the Southwestern Ontario area for M r Ibhey, a native of Port Elgin He said he was pleased to be able to return with his family wife Joyce and four children, Andrea. Bradley. Brent and Cheryl, to the area. ,lo,-c'e Ribey is also involved in the operation of the business, which employs four parttime staff, two secretaries and two "meal helpers The Ribeys began renovating the home in 1t175. with a major renovation of the funeral hone' interior in 1978. the funeral home was esniided to take in the dining room and hs iog morn of the house. in 1980, the parking lot v.as enlarged and in 1983 a new garage and storage area was built The showroom was enlarged in 1984 and the foyer addition w ai cr,mpleted this fall tienosating the interior of a building the .i/( of the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home is no 'mall task The house covers 338 square wants of floor space Mr Blue} says his facility is capable of hardline as many as three funerals at once, eh n nF•cessary It s not very often that happens -- but it does happen ' • he says. In addition to the main parlor, the building has a second parlor that can be used either to accommodate one large funeral or can be divided to accommodate two. The showroom can also he converted for use if a third funeral is Pecessary •' W e can seat about 275 people," said Mr. Rihey There is also a small organ room and an organist is available when a funeral is in progress The building is also equipped with a ramp. installed in 1982, to make it wheeichair•accessable The Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home is a member of the Ontario Funeral Services Association Since moving to Seaforth, the Ribeys have been invovled with the community through minor sports, church, service clubs and other organizations. it is important to be a part of the community you live in.
