Film featured at WI meeting Brussels Correspondent EDNA McLELLAN 887-9084 A film and discussion period was featured at the November meeting of the Melville Presbyterian Women's Missionary Society. Isabel Gibson introduced the film and Margaret McLeod led the discussion of it that followed. Mrs. McLeod, the president, also opened the meeting with a poem. Mrs. King accompanied the hymns on the piano. The secretary's report was given by Ruby Steiss and the treasurer's re ort by Evelyn M air. The subscriptions for Gad Tidings was taken by Mrs. Mair in the a sence of Mrs. Perrie. Ruth Martin gave a report from the nominating committee. .The collection was taken by Mrs. Mair and dedicated by Mrs. Mcleod. Mrs. Steiss gave a story about a woman's ministry. Mrs. Stephens gave a reading, A duet was sung by Mary Dounua and Peggy Aitcheson and the scripture was read by Helen Elliott. Isabel Adams led in prayer. Isabel Gibson gave an introduction to the film "Banners of Love." Mrs. McLeod wok charge of the film and afterwards had a discussion on Bible and medical mission- aries. Elizabeth Jamieson dosed the meeting with prayer. A lunch was served by Mrs. Elliott and her committee and a social time enjoyed'. EUCHRE PARTY HELD Last Tuesday the Majestic Women's Institute hosted its monthly euchre party with eight tables in play. Ruby Steiss welcomed everyone. Winners ended up being: high White cross, lady, Emelyne Steiss, high man, Marguerite Sanderson (playing as a man), low lady, Edith Baker, low man, Jane De Vries; (playing as a man), most lone hands, Ross Cunningham, travelling prize Emelyne Steiss, lucky cue, Marguerite Sanderson, Mel Jacklin, Annie Engel and Albert Quipp. A lunch brought an enjoyable evening to a close. The next card party is Tuesday, December 3 at 8 p.m. PAST NOBLE GRANDS MEET The Past Noble Glands Club met recently at the home of Jean Bridge with president, Mary Davidson in charge of the 'meeting. Secretary Margaret McCutcheon read the minutes of the last meeting. The next meeting will be December 2 and members are to take an exchange gift since it will be the Christmas meeting. There were three tables playing euchre 'with winners being high lady, Annie Thynne, low lady, Vera Hastings, high man, Lillian Moses and low man, Marguerite Crawford. Prizes were donated by Verna Thomas and W innifred Edgar. Lunch was served by 'co -hostess Alice McArter and Mrs. Craw- ford. PRESBYTERIAN NEWS Sunday was a cold one for the worshippers at Melville Presbyterian Church. Rev. Victor Jamieson took as his sermon "How Can W e Receive and Keep. God's Peace." The choir sang the Battle Hymn of the Republic. There was also a children's story and prayers were said for the sick at home and in hospitals. Some members of the board of managers will meet with some from Knox Church in Belgrave on Wednesday at 8 p.m. to workout the 1986 budget projections. Next Surlday Rev. Jamieson will be in the pulpit at North Mornington and Burns' Milverton while the Rev. Willis Sayers will lead the worship here. Following Sunday's service there will be finger food and refreshments served. Anyone planning to' stay for lunch are asked to bring sandwiches, squares or cookies. Anyone who has not donated $20 to the Knox College Restoration fund is encouraged to do so this month. TheMENNONITE CHURCH Brussels Mennonite Fellowship will be looking for papers November 22 and 23. There will be a pick up in Brussels on November 23 so residents are asked to have the papers at the curb by 10 a.m. No shiny papers or catalogues will be accepted. UNITED CHURCH The Brussels United Church congregation met with their minister the Reverend Charles Carpentier this past Sunday. Following the opening of worship the observance of the two minute silence. was held. During the service the choir had their anthem presentation. Rev. Carpentier's sermon was "Violence and the First Commandment." Prayers were said for the sick and shut-ins. Worship at the Callander Nursing ,Home this afternoon is by the United Church. Welcomed to the fellowship of the church through transfer is Sylvia Stevenson. On Noyember 15 the United Church Women will have a hot luncheon and bake sale from 11:30 a, m. till 1 p.m. The general meeting is onNovember 19 at 8 p.m. in the church parlor, The Inglis Brothers (Doug, Paul and Peter) will participate in the worship service by singing two gospel songs on Sunday, November 24. Bible Study will be held on Monday, November 25 at 8 p.m. in the church parlor: • poppies adorn communion table was given by Mrs. McBurney and Mrs. Victor Youngblut read the treasurer's report. EUCHRE RESULTS Nine tables were in play at the weekly euchre held in the W omen's Institute Hall last Wednesday. W inners were high lady, Vera Marsh; low lady, Mrs. Bert Johnston; novelty lady, Mrs. W illiam Black; high man, Bert Johnston; low man, Mel Jacklin and novelty man, Gordon Walker. There will be euchre again today at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. LEWIS STONEHOUSE 887-9487 A white cross adorned with red poppies was on the Communion table of Knox United Church, Sunday morning, It served as a solemn reminder of the lives sacrificed for us through war and the debt of gratitude we owe. The psalm reading, hymns and the scripture passages all implied hope. The choir sang with Mrs. George Procter organist. • MISSIONARY SOCIETY A story by Frank Morgan entitled "Happi- ness is not something to seek, but it can be found" was read by Mrs. Mac Scott at the Women's Missionary Society meeting held November 4.
