ALLAN McCALL 887-6677 On Wednesday September 18 Howard Hackwell was guest speaker at the Walton Women's Institute meeting. President, Leona McDonald chaired the meeting. Margery Huether was pianist for the evening. Minutes were read by Margaret Shortreed followed by the treasurer's report, In the correspondence a letter was read from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food for a Kitchen Course in the near future. The Guelph Area Convention is to be held in St. Agatha October 17 to 18. The local delegate will be Maxine Marks. Thanks was extended to Ruth Axtmann and Marion Goakin for the fine display they had entered in the Brussels Fail Fair that day. Viola Kirkby gave a report from the District executive meeting she had attended September 9 at Mrs. Thorton's in Gorrie. Delegates to go to the County Rally October 7 in Hurondale are Margaret Shortreed and Helen Craig. IL was decided to begin the noon luncheons again at the hall, dates set are October 2, 16 and 30 and November 13 and 27. QUILT UP The ladies are to set up a quilt on Monday. This quilt to be on display with tickets to be for sale, draw to be made in December. The meeting was turned over to Mary Humphries, convenor for the Family and Consumer Affairs who read a poem. Mary thanked everyone who had brought an article for Children's Family Services in Goderich. The guest speaker, Howard Hackwell from the social services outlined programs for the County giving many worthwhile facts, this became a unit in 1972, and he works out of the Court House in Goderich. Ruth Axtmann thanked the speaker and presented a small appreciation gift. A lunch was served by the hostesses, Ruth Axtmann and Marion Godkin. The 120th anniversary of Duff's United Church was held on Sunday, September 13 with a full auditorium of friends and former members returning to hear The 'Rev. Dr. Douglas Ross, secretary of the London Conference, who took as his sermon "Walking into the Sunrise." Roy and Kathleen Williamson were at the door, Neil McGavin, Emerson Mitchell and WALTON Doug Fraser were ushers. Guest organist was Lane Hazlewood. The music was supplied by the choir and the Seaforth Harmony Kings. They sang three anthems. Bonnie Larnble was in the pulpit and conducted the service and a special invitation was extended to everyone to remain for a cold salad plate. The gift of a Leslie speaker for the organ was donated by the Dr. and Mrs. B.G. Hazlewood. De. Hazlewood served this charge from 1942 to. 1951. Materials for the club were given out and the girls made tea biscuits. The second meeting was. held at Pat Nolan's home on September 16 opening with the 4-H pledge. The girls made pastry, then had to figure out what was wrong with each, giving points.
