Celeidh draws very good crowd
As you read this article, Legion week is
almost half over. Legion week has been
declared by our Dominion Command to .be
from Sunday, September 15 to the following
Saturday evening, this year being September
21. This has been .universal throughout the
country and is being observed by all the
Legions in Canada this week in conjunction
with our Diamond Jubilee year 160 years/ of
service to the veterans and the community.
Our Scotch C leidh, under the leadership ,
of C'omr'ade Peter Malcolm, was held last
Saturday evening with a very good crowd
attending. On behalf of the Branch and those
attending 1 would like to thank the pipers and
drummers' for the time they gave in practices
and at the Celeidh. Thanks also to the singers
and ct:ulcers. It was all very much appreciated
by the Branch. W e hope we can have one next
year again.
On Sunday. our Zone held a Drumhead
Service at Goderich which was well attended
by all branches in the Zone and by many from
the whole district. This was held to mark the
start of Legion week and mark another event
in our Diamond Jubilee year. With most
veterans now in their 60s, it also starts the
slow transition of our sons and daughters to
the leadership of our organization, which is
impend i 'e if our Branches across the country
are til survive another 110 years.
The tulip campaign is now in its final stages
with the tulips in all the Branches. Comrades
Bill and George report most of the tulips have
been picked up but a few are still waiting for
deliver. If yours are still there one of the
boys will he only too glad to oblige. Bill and
George would like to thank all those who
ordered tulips and helped make the tulip
campaign the success h has been. The tulips
next Spring will be a reminder of our Legion's
ontribution to all the communities that have
been made a little richer by our 60 years of
existence, and the sacrifice of all those who
gave their lives for freedom.
on Friday evening the Legion is presenting
a musical called "W e' 11 Meet Again" at the
high school at 6 p.m The cast is the same one
presented to the Provincial Convention last

Our membership chairman, Al Nicholson
has just, reminded us it is that time of year '
again. The branch is counting on your
support to submit next year's membership
dues before the end of December. With this
in mind we are taking the liberty of
suggesting you make us look good by
becoming an earlybird. We want you to
continue your membership and what better
way to do it than becoming an early bird. The
membership committee is Al Nicholson
chairman, Bob Watson, Ken Cardno, Larry
Broome and Gar Baker. Any of the above will
be glad to accept your dues. Dues may also be
paid at the branch. Let's make this our best
early bird campaign ever.
During Legion week our branch has an
open invitation to all citizens to visit the club
rooms and view our memorabilia of the last
two wars. This issa most interesting display of
.artifacts that have been collected through the
years by our Stewart Frank Phillips. Frank
would be very glad to show you what we have.
On Sunday, the last day of Legion Week,
our Auxiliary is holding a hot and cold
smorgasbord in the hall to help celebrate our
Diamond Jubilee between the hours of five
and seven p.m. The tickets are six dollars
each which includes tea, coffee and dessert,
Our ladies, are hoping for a good turnout so
please keep in mind Sunday between 5 and 7
p.m. Tickets are now on sale for this event.
