Fall has arrived and with it the school
season. With all the youngsters back at
school I'm sure there are many moms
breathing sighs of relief. I too am en joyidg an
entire day without cooking one pizza at a time
or hearing the kids argue over the pop bottle
liners. It is usually about 3:30 p.m. now
before the kids arrive at the course. It gives
me plenty of time to catch up on all the little
things I've been going to do all summer.
However, it is pretty quiet out here during the
day and I find 1 really do miss the kids.
Many of our regular golfers are only seen
on the weekends now. The teachers have
plenty of homework to keep them busy and
with the days getting shorter and shorter it
means fewer golfers have a chance to get out
after work.
Many of the competitive events are
completed for the 1985 season but there are
still a numberof things to be done. Yesterday
Iiz Canino was defeated by Brenda Empev in

the final of the Ladies Match Play Champion-
ship, Rob Core is still awaiting the winner of
the Ken Doig vs Greg Core match which
should be completed this weekend. Darren
Crocker and Bill Tremeer still have their final
round to complete for the Junior Match Play
title.
On Sunday 22 ladies played golf in the
Ladies Closing Captain's Choice Event. A
number of prizes were given out and the
ladies and guests enjoyed a delicious dinner
in the clubhouse. Rita Core had the most
chip -ins this year, C.A. Doig had the lowest
ringer score, Brenda Empey had the greatest
handicap reduction and Jean Dow was the
most improved golfer. The executive for 1986
was elected with Cathy Elliott staying on as
captain for another year. Joyce Taylor,
secretary, Rita Core, treasurer, and various
other committees formed.
This Saturday the Men's Night Closing will
be held with golf beginning at 2 p.m. Winners
at last weeks Men's night were Doug Elliott
and John Janmaat,
There will be a Turkey Shoot on Saturday,
October 12 at 2 p.m. followed by a potluck
supper and socializing. All members and
their guests are welcome to come for the last
event of the season.
Stocking program planned for spring
The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources
will compare the performance of lake trout to
its hybrid cousin, lake trout backcross, in an
experimental stocking program in Owen
Sound beginning in the spring of 1986.
"This multi-year study will help resolve
the question of the relative merits of the lake
trout compared to the lake trout backcross,"
says Natural Resources Minister Michael
Harris, "Although there is strong support for
the backcross in Georgian Bay, there has also
been concern about the apparent failure of
the fish to reproduce."
The lake trout backcross is a hybrid fish,
developed by crossing a fifth generation

splake male with a lake trout female. The
result is a fish that is 75 per cent or more lake
trout and 25 per cent brook trout. MNR has
been stocking the backcross in Georgian Bay
since 1979, but the first indications of natural
reproduction were noted just this spring.
Ralph Tippett, MNR's district manager in
Owen Sound. will organize a special commit-
tee made up of MNR staff and interested
individuals to design and implement the
experimental stocking project. Jack Osadzuk,
a local fisherman and member of both the
Sydenham Sportsmen's club and the Zone 6
Fish Advisory Committee of the Ontario
Federation of Anglers and Hunters, has
agreed to be a member of the committee.
The committee will seek advice from
different local interest groups such as
commercial fishermen, sport fishermen and
tourist and municipal organizations, to
ensure all concerns are dealt with and the
program is clearly understood. A final report
will be published for public review when the
experiment is over.
Anyone interested in this program is
invited to send comments to the committee
through the MNR Owen Sound District
Office, 611 Ninth Avenue East, Owen Sound,
