Church club to hold

The PCW of Cannel Presbyterian Church
met recently for their fall season. Winnie
Skea was in charge of the devotional and.
opened with a poem. Lizzie Faber read the
scripture and Eleanor Thomson led in prayer.
President Margaret Hoggarth presided for
the remainder of the meeting, welcomed
everyone and read a poem. Executives of the
Presbyterial Fall Conference will meet
September 25 at Cranbrook. The offering was
taken by Jean Snell and dedicated by Marg
Hoggarth. Mrs. Knight gave a report on the
Synodical she attended as a delegate:
Marlene Bell gave the treasurer's report,
Eleanor Thomson and Winnie Skea reported
kitchen supplies and Kathy Bell reported for
cards and treats. It was decided to hold the
annual bazaar on November 2 at 2:00 p.m.
Following the discussion of fall meetings the
meeting closed with prayer by Marg
Hoggarth. Hostesses were Jean Snell and
Ruby Bell.
. HORTICULTURE
The Hensall and Community Horticultural
Society held its September meeting in the
Fellowship Hall of the United Church.
Dorothy Mickle accompanied at the piano
for the singing of our national anthem and
President Sheila Raeburn thanked Mrs.
Mickle and welcomed the many members in
attendance.
The Secretary read the minutes of the last
meeting and gave a mini financial report.
Speaker Mary Morrice of Ellison Tours of
Exeter was introduced by Jack Smith. She
showed slides of Hawaii and gave appro-
priate commentary. Doug Ellison also spoke
following the completion of Mary's portion.
Bill Gibson thanked Mary and presented
her with a gift.
Sheila . Raeburn introduced the District
Director, Clarence Lang of Chesley. He
complimented us on our progress in two
years.
The reading of the mail and ' usiness
followed, Thea W isch conducted the draw for
door prizes and lucky winners were: 011ie
Cooper, Hazel Luther, Hans Gerstenkorn,
Jeanette Turner, Velma Robinson, Janeth
Sangster, Linda M. Ferguson and Jean
Flemming. The plant exchange took place.
UNIT I
To open the Unit 1 September 12 meeting a
moment's silence was observed in memory of
Helen Goddard. Ten members were present.
Audrey Joynt opened the devotional with
the singing of a hymn. The Scripture was
taken from Luke, Chapter 5 verses I-11.
Anita Cook presented the study and
showed slides of Korea. Kay Elder and Marg
Consitt provided lunch.
SENIORS MEET
The Hensall Three Links Seniors met last
Tuesday evening and opened their Fall
season with a potluck supper. President,
Hilda Payne presided for the meeting and
Dorothy Mickle was at the piano. Dorothy
Brintnell gave the treasurer's report, Irene
Davis, Zone President, gave a report of the
convention she attended in Kingston and
officers for the coming year were installed by
Irene Davis. They are: Past President, Hilda
Payne; President, Aldeen Volland; 1st Vice
President, Edith Bell, 2nd Vice President,
Pearl Taylor, Secretary, Evelyn Flynn,
Treasurer, Dorothy Brintnell. Tickets were
sold on a bag of apples.
John McDougall drew the lucky ticket for
Gertie Moir. Rev. Stan McDonald was the
guest speaker and gave commentary on his
trip to France.

4-H club takes on baking project

The first meeting of Kippen 3 4-H dub' was
held last week at the home of Eileen
Townsend. Joyce Wilson and Eileen Town-
send both welcomed everyone back for
another exciting project. New 4-1-I members
are: Leanne Erb, Kate Papple, and Janice
McIntosh.
The meeting began with the 4-H pledge
and everyone answered the roll call on "W hat
do you expect to get out of this project?" The
leaders introduced us to the requirements of
the Basic Baking Project.
The first meeting consisted of how to
measure liquids, dry ingredients and how to
find the temperature in an oven. The
members were put into three groups. and
each group made one of the following: plain,
cinnamon or cheese tea biscuits.
While the tea biscuits were cooking,
officers for this project were elected. They
are: President, Karen De Jong: Vice -Presi-
dent, Lynn Moffat; Secretary, floating:
Treasurer, Jane Papple and Press Reporter,
floating.
Home activity was read and discussed. The
tea biscuits were delicious and were con-
sumed in record time. The next meeting was
held on Monday, September 16 at 7 p.m. at
Brucefield United Church.
UN1rEOCHURCH NEWS
The UCW meeting was held on Tuesday,
September 10 The Worship Service was
conducted by Frances Kinsman and followed
the theme "Obedience". Helen MacLean.
Kyle and Grace Cooper. led in a discussion on
KIPPEN
the second coming of Christ from a paper of
Dr. David Maines. During the business
meeting led by President, June Cooper, plans
were made for a social time and lunch to
follow the anniversary service, October 20
and for the Annual Fall Supper on November
t:3.
Rev. Lorne Keays presided in the pulpit of
St. Andrews on Sunday, September 15 with
Barbara Cooper at the organ. Rev. Keays'
sermon was entitled "Your Fingers and Your
Praying".

PERSONA IS
Bob and Frances Kinsman hosted an
anniversary party. with 25 family members
present on Saturday. September 14. John and
Karen Kinsman were honored for their lath
wedding anniversary on September 12, and
Bob and Frances Kinsman for their 30th
wedding anniversary on September 14.
The Energetic Eight gathered at the home
of Phyllis and Harold Parsons on Wednesday,
September I I to celebrate Bob and Frances
Kinsman's 30th wedding anniversary and
Bev Hamilton's and Margaret Hoggarth's
birthdays. all in September

The Stanley-Tuckersmith unit met recently
with Evelyn McBeath in charge of the
worship. Isabel Scott read an article on
compassion fatigue in Ethiopia and how the
church is helping Edna Paterson presided
and Mrs. Jack Henderson read the minutes
and correspondence and Mrs Cliff Render
son gave the treasurer's report Grace
Chapman and Edna Paterson served lunch

bazaar
compete in any of the scheduled Motocross
races this past weekend, Jim was to have
raced at the' London Fair and Hully Gully but
due to an injury received at the new B.M.K.
track, Jim had to forego the racing. Jim's
injury could have been prevented had he had
equipment on such as a helmet which should
be a valuable lesson to any of the young
people in Hensall area who plan on using the
track, Jim hopes to be back on his Hully Gully
Honda and back to the racetrack by the end of
September.
CARMELSERVICE
Rev. C.D. Henderson of Exeter conducted
service in Cannel Presbyterian Church
Sunday in the absence of Rev. Knight, who
conducted a Presbytery visitation at Knox
Church, Listowel. Rev. Henderson delivered
an interesting message. Mrs. Dorothy Taylor
presided at the. organ,
Rev. Robert J. Roberts of Dungannon was
the minister at Hensall United Church on
Sunday in the absence of, Rev. Stan
McDonald who was conducting the anniver-
sary service at Dungannon. Belva Fuss
presided at the organ, leading in the service
of song. Charles Mallette greeted worship-
pers at the door. The ushers were Steven
Gerstenkorn, Tim Rowcliffe, Steven Mc-
Gregor and Rod Parker.
