The Blyth Festival will be holding its first
car rally on Saturday, September 14 - a "fun
run" through the Huron. County countryside.
Cars will depart from the Blyth Memorial
Hall between 9 a.m. and 12 noon. It is
expected the rally will take about three hours
-,unless people get hopelessly lost, in which
case they will have to open their "emergency
kit" (provided to all registrants at the outset).
There is a lunch spot with washrooms en
route.
Members of the public are invited to join in
the fun. Get into the spirit by inventing a

If you're between the ages of 12 and 21 and
can sing, dance, play a musical instrument or
do a magic, comedy or ventriloquism act, the
Southwestern Ontario Youth Talent Search is
looking for you. Hundreds of youngsters will
perform throughout this area during August
in quest of cash prizes -- and perhaps
stardom! The contest is open to amateur
performers only, and soloists or groups up to
four are eligible.
Entry dates for preliminary competitions in
Elmira and London have already passed, but
contests in Dorchester, Woodstock, Paris,
Stratford, Strathmv and Kitchener are still

costume (so Ipng as it doesn't hamper your
driving ability). It is recommended each team
consist of at least two people: one to drive, the
other to, navigate and read the instructions.
This is an ideal event for the whole family -
children can get in on the act by watching out
for clues and landmarks.
Please note, this is not a race. The object
of the rally is to correctly answer questions
and identify check -points along the route,
while enjoying the challenge and taking in the
scenery.
The car rally is a fund-raising event with all
monies going towards the capital projects
fund of the Blyth Festival. Teams may
pre -register by calling the Blyth Festival
Office at 523-9300 or 9225, or may register on
the morning of September 14 itself. Registra-
tion costs $5.00 per car, regardless of the
number of people in the vehicle. First prize is
one night's accommodation for two at the four
star Banton Place Motor • Hotel in Palmerston;
their fitness centre includes an indoor pool,
sauna, whirlpool, squash courts, etc. Further
prizes will be awarded .

Up to 15 acts will be chosen from each
preliminary contest to compete at the
Western Fair, and 12 finalists will perform on
the main grandstand on Sunday, Sept. 15.
The final show will be taped by TV -London for
airing on Channel 10. The winner in London
receives $500 and an expense -paid trip to
Memphis, Tennessee in late September to
compete with youngsters representing fairs
across the continent in Youth Talent
International. Prizes up to $7,500 and an
audition with CBS Television's Top Casting
Committee are offered in Memphis. The
Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Scott and Rob have
returned home from a trip to the W est Coast
where they visited Alaska and Vancouver
Island and fished at Campbell River.
Thursday, residents enjoyed toe -tapping
music by Maria Flynn and Gang.
Friday a corn roast and barbeque were held
indoors as the weather didn't turn out too
good for them but all enjoyed it.
Bingo was played and the winners were
Doris Smith. Erle Dow. Keith Herman.

This is the fifth year for the contest, which
is jointly sponsored by TV -London and the
Western Fair. Last year's local winners,
Country Clover, a step -dance group from the
Sarnia area, placed third in Memphis and
carried home a cash award of $1,500.
