THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JUNE 7, 2018. 31st Special Olympics Torch Run on June 12 The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) will be making its annual trek into Huron County next week and everyone is invited to come out and participate in this fantastic event. Special Olympians, police officers, family members, friends and community supporters from all over Huron County will run, walk and stroll together on June 12 in an effort to promote awareness and raise funds for Special Olympics Ontario. This year marks the 31st anniversary of the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run. Since its inception in Ontario in 1987, the LETR has raised more than $35 million and has changed millions of attitudes. "This is a day I very much look forward to every year," said Huron OPP Torch Run Co-ordinator, Acting Staff Sergeant Russ Nesbitt. "We have had rainy days and bright sunny days but no matter the weather I know I'm always going to leave filled with feelings of joy. "Just being around the athletes and seeing the smiling faces from all of the participants is a very rewarding feeling," he said. "I encourage you to come out and join in on the fun; I guarantee you will get to meet some amazing people and will leave with a smile on your face." The Huron County Torch Run starts at 9 a.m. at the Wingham OPP Detachment. The run will go through Wingham ending at the south end mall. Participants will then be transported to Blyth, Clinton and Goderich where they will complete a run/walk/stroll in each of those communities. After completing the final leg in Goderich, participants and supporters will meet back at McGee Motors in Goderich for a celebratory barbecue. Any person or business looking to donate to this cause can donate on the day of the event by cash or cheques made payable to Ontario Special Olympics. Bus transportation will be provided free of charge from Goderich to Wingham. Please arrive at the Goderich OPP Detachment located on Courthouse Square prior to the 8 a.m. departure time. He is the only person who has officially filed his nomination papers in Central Huron. In North Huron, no one has filed papers to fill any council spots.
