--Tuesday was Teeswater's civic hol-
iday and an excursion to Erin was
the attraction for the day.
-Mr. John Marshall of Culross, who
was operated on at the hospital for ap-
pendicitis returned home last week.
-R-Thetrustees of S. S. No.10, Kinloss,
have engaged Miss Cassie McDonald of
Lucknow as teaeher for the coming year.
-According to the postal laws of
Canada a person cannot refuse a paper
at the post office unless all arrears are
paid up.
-The annual excursion to Kincar-
dine, under the auspices of the Brussels
Sunday schools, will be run on Tuesday,
August 16th.
-Mrs. A. F. Milne of Langside, who
underwent a severe operation four
weeks ago at the hospital, returned
home last week.
-Mr. Beusley, who was operated on
at the hospital for a severe attack of
acute appendicitis, returned home last
week fully recovered.
-Mrs. Alex Begg of Underwood, who
underwent a severe operation at the
Hospital early Sunday morning is doing
as well as can be expected.
-Mrs. David McKague, of Tees -
water, who was operated on at the hos-
pital on Saturday morning is doing as
well as could be expected.

-The little boy, Louis Dornell, who
fell off the iron bridge in lower town
last Sunday night, fracturing his skull,
is improving satisfactorily.
-Meeting of Wingham Liberals in
the C. 0. F. hall this (Thursday) even-
ing to appoint delegates to attend the
the convention at Brussels on Friday.
-The TIMES is very sorry this week
to report that our respected townsman,
Mr, L. McLean is gradually sinking
and there are no hopes of his recovery.
-Mrs. Ruth and Mrs. Moffatt, of
Teeswater, who have been patients in
the hospital, having undergone opera-
ations, were able to return home last
week.
-Mr. Jas. Porter's friends were pleas-
ed to meet him in town last Friday
looking hale and hearty after his severe
injury and subsequent operation at the
hospital.
What promises to be the•best pro-
gramme of sports put on in Western
Ontario, will be given in Lucknow on
Caledonian Day, Monday, August the
7th next. $3000.00 will be expended
in attractions, prizes, etc. The famous
Galt Kiltie Band, dressed in their
Scottish Costumes, has been secured.

will be supplied by the Lucknow Pipe
Band and the Lucknow Musical Society
Brass Band. The following atheletes
have been secured: _ Bobbie Kerr the
fastest sprinter in America who ran 100
yards in 9 4-5 seconds at Buffalo, July
4th. Frank Halbhaus who won the
British Empire , Championship at the
Coronation Sports in the 100 -yard dash
and the 2220' yards; Jack Tait winner
of the one- mile and champion of thei
British Empire for that distance; Mel.
will be given a good handicap. Bobby
Kerr will undertake to run 120 yards
while McDonald walks 60 yards. At
great expense, a splendid attraction
has been secured from New York,
Japanese acrobats and other perform-
ers. These will put on their show both
afternoon and evening. Good prizes
are given for piping and landing, and
the best pipers and dancers of America
will be here to compete, In the even-
ing a grand open air Concert will be
given in the Caledonian Park, consist-
ing of piping and dancing; performanc-
es by the Japanese acrobats and others
of,,their Co., and to be concluded with
the best display of fireworks ever given
in this part of the country. Special
rates are given by the railways from
all the larger centres, single fare from
all points within a $2.50 single fare

-The friends of Master Wilfrid Mc-
.'-ague, of Culross, who ' was so badly
injured by a mowing machine two
weeks ago will be pleased to learn that
he is improving.
-The Citizens' Band will give their
weekly concert in the park this (Thurs-
day evening in place of Friday evening
as Leader Sheppard leaves on Friday for
a short holiday.
-The Wingham fall fair will be held
on September 28th and 29th. The
prize list is now in the hands of the
printer and will be ready for distribu-
tion in a few days.
-.The members of St. Paul's Church
choir left on Monday morning for Kin-
cardine where they will spend the next
two weeks. We wish them a very
pleasant two weeks outing.
-The annual picnic of the Wingham
Woman's Institute will be held in Mr.
John T. Currie's grove, 12th concession
of East Wawanosh this (Thursday)
afternoon. Vehicles will leave Currie
Bros, livery stable at 1 o'clock p, m.

-Mr. Geo. Tees has arrived at Fort
William on his trip through New Ont-
ario and many friends will be pleased
to learn that he is much improved in
health andis having a very enjoyable
trip.
-It is expected that all the men who
went on strike on the G. T. R. last
summer: will be reinstated this week.
This is beleived tobe the result of a
conference between Sir Wilfrid Laurier
and Sir Charles M. Hays, which took
place recently.
--Mr. Irwin S. Pattison met with a
painful aceident while at work in the
Union factory on Monday afternoon.
A piece of board flew back from a saw
and bit Mr. Pattison on the right side
of the face,making an ugly gash. Mr.
Pattison has been employed at the
Union factory for twenty years and
escaped injury until Monday. His
friends wish him a speedy recovery.
York Loan Next Dividend.
An announcement has just been made
that will not please the many former
York Loan investors of this vicinity.
It is to the effect that the second
dividend to the creditors will not be
paid before about next July --a year
hence. Tbis coming from an official
source is not very satisfactory.

LAMONT.-At St, Joseph's hospital,
Washington on July 11th Malcolm La-
mont, formerly of Zetland, aged 60 years
and 2 months.

July 27th, Edward Nicholson, formerly
of Brussels in his 37th year.
HANNA. -in Clinton, on August lst,
William Hanna, late of Wingham, in
his 80th year.
Thos. P. Brown was murdered at
Chatham by Chas. Hurst, colored.

two injured by the capsizing of the
steamer Sirus near Cornwall.
