U. was organized about three weeks ago with a membership of sixty and has had two regular meetings since; the hot one being on Tuesday, February 28th, when there were forty members prepent. Our worthy President, Mrs. A. Rose, occupied the chair. The meeting was a very interesting one It was decided to hold the next meeting in the Hall over Mr, Hamilton's Drug Store in the Chile holm Block, on Tuesday, Maroh 14th, at 3 o'clock. In oonneotion with the Branch there have already been a large number of gentlemen taken membership. In this muse, however, the membership is hon. Orary as most of the privileges are ex- tended to them, the one exception being that of voting. It is hoped, however, that the usual magnanimity of the gentlemen will prevail to the extent that • a large number of our best oitizens will seek membership in the Union. Since our last meeting one of our noble sisters, Miss K,M. Fisher, has been called to her reword. We shall miss her but not soon forget her. Her mi. able disposition, her generous spirit, her nobleness of spirit, her singleness of aim, her self-saorifice and devotion to the cause of not only teniperance; but everything that pertained to the best interests of the town, must live in ninny hearts throughout.the future days. We mourn for her as one, though dead, yet liveth. There is no doubt that she has heard the MDasuterrinsgay, "We agreatninclonorae. l"struggle some years ago, a company cf people were talking of the hopelessness of the cause, when one said, "Gentlemen, it looks dark, but God is on our side, and how muck do you count him for?"
