Telephone Cases
Some ten independent telephone com-
panies made application to the Domin-
ion Railway Commiseion, asking for an
crier compelling the Bell Telephone
Company to give these companies long-
distauce connection. Tne oases were
beard at Toronto last week. The Bens -
eels. Grey and Morris Telephone Com-
pany le one of the interested companies
in this matter Considerable evidence
was taken in each case and some of the
companies will likely be able to make e
connecting agreement with the Bell Co.
with tut no order from the Commission -
ere. The Oommisalouers made one point
very plain and that was that they dtd
not believe the people of any commnoi-
ty should be forded to pay for service
from the telephones of two companies
when it could he arranged to get the
same service from one telephone. The
deoieion of the Commissioners will be
a'• sited with interest. In this conneo-
tios it may be stated that on the 31st of
Deoember last there were in the neigh-
borhood of 350 independent telephone
oomonnies in Ontario end of this num-
ber 320 oompaniee have a working ar-
raagpment with the Bell Go, similar to
that ot the North Huron Telephone Co.
