Mr, David Cowan met with a bad
and serious accident on Thuesday af-
ternoon, while engaged in laying 51

Brussels. His feet slipped and he fell
astride one of the joists. His bladder
was ruptured by the fall, Ile was
brought to Dr. Liadsay's office and
everything possible was clone by Drs.
Lindsay and Milne to relieve the pain
until early the following morning.
Dr, Gunn of Clinton wits sent for, and
during Friday afternoon he performed
an operation, assisted by Drs, Milne
and Lindsay. Mr. Cowan was. much
relieved by the operation and is now
steadily improving, although still in a
very serious condition.

ran away with the binder one day last
week, throwing his young son vio-
lently.to the ground, fortunately with-
out injury.
A very sad and distressing accident.

°Mimed on the farm of Mr. Charles
Rouse, one mile anti a quarter north
of Myth, in East Wawanosh, on
Thursday afternoon last. His 13 -year-
old son, George, was standing on the
delivery deck of the binder while it
was in motion, and while in that posi-
tion one of the discharging arms
pierced Isis right, leg on the outside at
the knee and tore it open to the ankle.
Dr. Milne dressed the wound, putting
nine stitches in it. Next day blood
poisoning set in, and. on Saturday
night, in an endeavor to save the boy's
life, the leg was amputated above the
knee by Dr. Gunn of Clinton. The
poison had firmly secured itself in the
boy's system which the amputation
was unable to check, and at 20 min-
utes to nine Sunday morning the poet
little fellow passed away. The fu-
neral, which was largely attended,
took place Tuesday forenoon, and in -
Rev. T. W. and Mrs. Cosens and son
are away for a few holidays at Lon-
don, Port Stanley and other points.
The pulpit of the Methodist church
will he occupied by Rev. Geo. Jewitt
for the next two Sabbaths.
Pupils of Brussels school met with
good success at the Junior Teachers'
and Junior Matriculation recent ex-
aminations.. Out of 17 who wrote on
the former 10 were successful, Matri-
culation exams. 5 out of were suc-
cessful.
A new residence will be erected by
Wm. Martin on his eligible property,

20x30 feet and the kitchen 14x24 feet.
Geo. Barkley and staff is now putting
