G2G group plans high-profile events By Shawn Loughlin The Citizen One of the biggest outdoor clean- up projects in Huron County history is continuing this year as the Goderich-to-Guelph (G2G) Rail Trail aims to host several high- profile events this year. The trail, which has been the pet project of a number of volunteers and the Regional Tourism Organization 4 (RTO4) for several years, will host a special Canada Day weekend ride in June/July as well as its annual Spring On The Trail later this month, a golf tournament planned for June 6 and a barbecue in Elmira on July 18. The eighth annual Spring On The Trail will be held on May 12, the Water features can help solve problem areas Continued from page 16 can add hours of entertainment by enjoying the animals and insects. • Remedy problem areas: Rather than fighting with the landscape, homeowners can adapt it. An area of the yard prone to soggy conditions or flooding can be transformed into a pond or waterfall to work with natural surroundings. • Foster a passion: Many people turn to water features so they can explore the hobby of nurturing an outdoor aquarium. Koi ponds are relatively easy to install and maintain, and the vibrant fish add visual appeal. • Add a personal touch: Water features are as unique as the homeowners who create them. To set landscaping apart from neighbours' homes, homeowners can add fountains, ponds or flowing water elements to their properties. Decorative water features also can be melded with pools and spas to help these manmade recreational areas seem like they were carved right out of the natural landscape. Water features can take landscapes to the next level with sounds, texture, movement and beauty. r 1 i ✓ 144votiecL Share your news by placing your announcement in The Citizen Call for pricing & details 519-523-4792 or 519-887-9114 J Saturday before Mother's Day, and it spans four counties (Huron, Perth, Wellington Counties and the Region of Waterloo). Participants are encouraged to bike the trail or walk or hike along the trail as a way of getting outside and off the couch as the weather starts to turn warm after a long, cold winter. Since G2G Inc. took control of the former railbed, volunteers have been working diligently to procure funding and to clear the trail that had become overgrown after years of not being used. In the years that followed, the trail has been groomed and the trees and brush along the trail has been trimmed back to ensure an uninterrupted trail experience from one end of the G2G Continued on page 18 Local investment While much of the work on the Goderich-to-Guelph (G2G) Rail Trail has been cleaning or landscaping, some major investments have been made in bridging gaps in the trail, like the bridge above, opened late last year by Huron County Warden and Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn.
