Council supports BMGCC upgrades in principle
By Shawn Loughlin
The Citizen
Huron East Council has thrown its
support in principle behind potential
upgrades at the Brussels, Morris and
Grey Community Centre.
Council passed a motion at its
meeting last week stating its intent to
support the expansion and
renovation of the centre in principle.
Exactly what form the project will
take and how much it will cost has
yet to be determined.
The motion was first raised by
Councillor Alvin McLellan, who is
also chair of the Brussels,
Morris and Grey Community

At the Branch
Centre, at council's final meeting in
April.
This came after a public meeting
brought out nearly 150 people to the
centre to speak about potential
renovations and expansion of the
centre. The support for the centre
was overwhelming, but most
residents wanted to know that
council would be there to support the
centre and the residents of Brussels
if they chose to go ahead with the
project.
McLellan told council that by the
time a plan was put in place and
fundraising began, there would be a
new council in place.
He felt it was important that the
new council know that the
renovation and expansion of the
centre was a priority for the previous
council.
Deputy -Mayor Joe Steffler agreed
with the intent of the motion, saying
that if council and the community
were going to go ahead with work at
the centre, it should be done
correctly the first time.
He brought up the Seaforth and
District Community Centre leaving
out areas of the centre that could
have been renovated the last time,
saying they had made a mistake. He
didn't want to see the same thing
happen to Brussels.
Council passed the motion, which
stated that council supported the
expansion and possible upgrades at
the centre in principle.

Mclnroy hosts Guild, WI meeting
The March meeting of the
Melville Guild and Women's
Missionary Society was held on
Tuesday, March 20 at 1:30 p.m. at
the home of Margaret Mclnroy.
Margaret Siertsema and Margaret
Mclnroy led the Easter worship
service. The WMS Purpose was
repeated in unison.
Margaret Mclnroy read the call to
worship, Psalm 25: 4-6. Margaret
Siertsema led in prayer, focusing on
the many points and stages of our
lives. She then spoke on Jesus
making his final emotional
preparations for death as from the
scriptures, John 19: 25-27.
We all face losses or endings,
which members all wrote down on
strips of paper and placed at the foot
of the cross on the table. Margaret
McInroy shared "You have to die to
live!" Seeds are planted, buried in
the ground — will they grow? We
have no control over them. It is the
same with us. The transformation
happens when we let go of power or
influence. This is when God's sparks
rekindle and transform us. Seeds
were handed out to take home and
plant.
The hymn, "In the bulb there is a
flower" was sung. Margaret
Siertsema spoke on how we get so
excited with new beginnings and
new life. We were reminded we
should not cling to the past, such as
the losses and endings that members
wrote down, but as you watch your
plants grow, meditate on the new
transformations of your situation
and how you may be trying to hold
on to the old. Embrace the new.
The offering was taken up. The
hymn, "Now the green blade rises"
was sung. Margaret Mclnroy led in
prayer and the Mizpah benediction
was repeated in unison to close the
devotional portion of the meeting.
