Due to social media, which brings
us news from across our country and
from around the world almost
instantaneously, and the news
network that exists in small
communities we are constantly
aware of the sadness in others' lives.
The group responsible for the
meditation time at the
Londesborough UCW meeting on
April 23 chose "God's Gift of
Healing Tears" as theme.
Scientists have long been aware of
the healing aspects of salt water.
Tears, also salt water, are not a sign
of weakness, but of great emotion.
They are necessary for good health,
both physically and emotionally.
They are cathartic and bring relief.
It was noted by Marie Bergsma,
Dorothy Bogie and Helen Lyons that
along with events around the world,
sorrow is present currently in our
faith community and tears along
with prayers are every person's way
of coping. Helen asked for a two
minute silent prayer during which
the ladies were encouraged to
address the situations on their minds
with God. Then she read the familiar
"Footprints".
Marie and Dorothy lit a candle to
reassure the ladies that God is
always with them. Dorothy read a
meditation which encouraged the
ladies to recognize tears as a
necessary part of life's coping
mechanisms, to not be ashamed to
show that sorrow and offer them as
hope. John 11:17-37 is the account
of the death of Lazarus in which we
learn "Jesus wept". The 23rd Psalm
was said in unison and three familiar
hymns including "He Touched Me"
were sung.
The mission aim that the ladies
present were given was — Be with
those who need comfort and listen.
And share their sorrow/tears.
President Bev Riley conducted the
business meeting during which
several items received discussion.
The group will attend a preview
performance of Wing Night at the

Ross leads service
Rev. Paul Ross led the service at
Londesborough United Church on
Sunday, April 29 and gave
congregants who gathered much to
ponder with his message titled,
"Look Both Ways". Marsha Szusz
played piano for the service.
Charlie Horse made an
appearance during the children's
time with Paul. Charlie became a
member of Londesborough's faith
family when Paul was the minister
here over 15 years ago. He feels he
belongs to Londesborough United
and took a "selfie" to commemorate
this visit. Rev. Ross went on to talk
with the children about being part of
their family and about being a part
of Londesborough's faith family.
His point to the boys and girls was
that life is not just about "me" but
about being part of families and
groups, etc.
Supporting scriptures for the
message were Mark 4: 1-9, Acts 2:
37-47 and Psalm 84. Jesus liked to
teach His followers by the Sea of
Galilee. In the Mark scripture
passage we learned that the crowd
that day was so large Jesus preached
from a boat on the water. That day
He taught through the Parable of the
Sower. The Acts passage was an
account of the time Peter spoke with
folk about giving up their selfish
ways and being baptized into God's
family. Three thousand persons were
baptized that day by Peter and other
apostles.
When considering what has
happened to attendance at church
services in the past few decades one
wonders how Christ's ministry grew

Area folk learned last Wednesday
of the death of Clare Vincent. Clare
had been a resident at Huronlea in
Brussels for many years as a result
of health issues. Clare and Wilma
farmed just outside of
Londesborough and their children,
who still live in Huron County,
attended Hullett Central.
Condolences from villagers are
extended to his family and friends.
