teams worked hard through the
series, so it was a tense and exciting
moment."
Groves said the win was a good
end to the season for a great bunch
of young people.
"They worked hard all season
and, after those first couple games,
I could tell they had something
going together and worked well
together," he said. "They always
came together when it was
necessary."
M -T tax rate decreases
Continued from page 1
the municipality's Ontario
Municipal Partnership Funding
(OMPF) had been reduced from
$771,700 in 2017 to $666,200, a
reduction of $105,500 or 13.67 per
cent. The funding is provided to
municipalities to ease operating
costs.
Policing costs also increased in
2018 to $459,758, a 2.12 per cent
increase over 2017.
Despite these challenges, Morris-
Turnberry was able to present a
$11,853,472 budget that would
result in reduced residential property
tax rates.
Michie explained the proposed
residential tax rate, when including
reductions at the municipal, county
and education levels, would see a 6.4
per cent decrease.
The municipality's share of that
budget is $8,782,539, or 75 per cent,
with Huron County taking
$2,042,723 (17 per cent) and local
school boards taking $1,028,210
(eight per cent).
The municipal levy, or the amount
of money to be collected through
taxation, increased 1.43 per cent
from $3,352,344 to $3,400,206.
As far as individual tax bills are
concerned, Michie said that 52.5 per
cent of taxes collected by the
municipality stay in Morris-
Turnberry. Huron County takes 31.6
per cent and local school boards take
15.9 per cent.
A major part of the municipality's
$8,782,539 budget is road
construction which increased
substantially over 2017.
Michie explained the total road
construction budget in 2017 was
$681,820. The approved draft
budget includes $1,181,000 in road
projects, an increase of 73 per cent.
Listed construction projects
include Arthur Street in Lower Town
Wingham at $275,000, Huron Bruce
Road at $10,000, asphalt paving on
B -Line at $225,000, municipal tar
and chip projects at $210,000 a
culvert replacement on Clyde Line
at $190,000, miscellaneous bridge
work at $86,000 and bridge repair at
Orange Hill costing $185,000.
Belgrave Water Rates were also
part of the discussion, which will be
increasing 1.15 per cent in 2018.
Users of the system paid $1,043.14
in 2017, or $86.93 per month. In
2018, those costs will increase to
$1,055.04 or $87.92 per month.
The draft document was approved
by council and Michie was
instructed to prepare a bylaw to
adopt the budget including the
Belgrave water rates for a future
council meeting.
