We welcomed spring last week
and lots of sun! Warmer
temperatures are not here, but they
will come! Checking in the flower
beds on the south side of the house,
has tulips coming up nicely and
snowdrops have appeared on lawns
and in flowerbeds. As long as there
is snow and there is a nice bit around
the edge of the bushes, it will be
cool.
The Brussels birthday ladies
gathered for their monthly party at
JR's and had around 20 attend. They
were celebrating the birthdays of
Jane Hall, Cora Alcock and Dale
Chesher. Enjoying a delicious dinner
and great social time were Nora
Stephenson, Marci Bremner, Merle
Cousins, Betty McCutcheon, Marie
McCutcheon, Betty Campbell, Lois
McCutcheon, Laura Barbour, Bev
Palmer, Audrey Cardiff, Betty
Cardiff, Nelva Scott, Jean Davidson,
Alice Marks, Sandra Cable, Joan
Bernard, Leona Armstrong and Edna
McLellan. Happy birthday to
everyone!
Congratulations to Marie Blake on
becoming a great-grandmother
again. Brooklyn Nicole has arrived
to the delight of parents Kurt and
Nicole Murray. Joyce and Tom
Williamson are excited to have
another grandchild and Brooklyn
will be welcomed home by siblings
Weston and Elly. Congrats to all!
Marie Blake also became a great -
great -grandmother again with the
arrival of Kaden Bryce. He was
welcomed by Brandi and David and
big brother Messer. Proud
grandparents are Dianne and Dennis
Gregory and a great-grandchild for
Ken and Anne Williamson. Congrats
to all!
Congratulations to Darryl and Jodi
Houston as they have moved into
their new home on McNabb line.
Emmett will be excited to be in his
new surroundings!
Heading down to London to visit
with Glenn Warwick were a few
local friends. Carman and Mary
Bernard and Val Shortreed and then
Tom and Brian Warwick have all
made the journey to see Glenn. He
will be in hospital for a couple of
months, so visitors are always
appreciated.
Our sympathies are extended to
Cora Alcock on the passing of Bill
Alcock of Goderich. He will be
missed by the large Alcock family
connection of the Brussels area. He
will be missed by his children Rick,
Kathy, Mike and Paul and families.
The Cranbrook Dart Club had 20
players take aim at the boards and
had three teams capture four games
each. Team 2 of Evelyn Blake,
Murray Keffer and Fred Smith,
Team 10 of Gayle Speiran, Frank
Workman and Jane Zwep and Team
8 of Marita Lefor, Jim Blake and
Brad Speiran shared the honours.
The high lady was Pat Gillis, hitting
98 and George Zwep hitting, 140.
The group missed darter Murray
Houston as he is in hospital at this
time, as well as others who were ill.
Neil and Marie McGavin have
returned from a trip to North Bay.
They took in the Ford World's
Women's Curling Championships
being held there. They attended the
opening banquet representing New
Holland and attended many games
through until Wednesday. They were
able to stay at their daughter
Heather's but did not have much of a
chance to visit. Heather was busy
running kids here and there and was
in Trenton for a couple of days with
their daughter, who is hoping to go
to school there in the fall. Neil and
Marie's main job was petsitter. They
had the hamsters, fish, a bird and a
dog to deal with most everyday!
The Walton Women's Institute,
along with invited guests of the
Brussels Majestic Women's
Institute, met at the home of
Margaret McInroy for a joint
meeting. There were 19 in
attendance. They had a wonderful
guest speaker in Bonnie Sitter, about
the creation of the ceramic Poppies
for the Royal Canadian Legions in
2016 in recognition of the men of
Huron County, over 550, who died
in the First World War. They were
made at the former Holmesville
School and had many helpers from
across Huron County aid in
production, painting and displaying
of the Poppies in the fall of 2016. All
Legions in Huron County received
Poppies for those lost in their area.
The ladies report it was a wonderful
meeting.
Just a reminder to folks about
getting calls from Revenue Canada.
They are a hoax. Do not call them
[E
back. You are not going to be
arrested or go to jail. Do not reply!
Revenue Canada does not call
people on the phone.
A surprise kept, until the day of,
was the party for Keith Wilbee to
celebrate his 65th birthday. Nearly
50 gathered to welcome Keith into
the golden age of receiving the
coveted brown government envelope
on Saturday evening. The group
enjoyed a social time and then a
delicious supper provided for them.
A wonderful evening with a variety
of family, friends, musical associates
and neighbours, enjoyed meeting
each other and shared stories of
Keith. The party was organized by
wife Gloria and sons Kevin and
Mark. Some enjoyed watching
some old videos of days gone by.
Happy birthday to Keith!
Many local folks were in Stratford
at the Arden Park on the weekend to
attend the Ontario Plowman's
Convention. Graeme and Helen
Craig, Neil and Marie McGavin, Jeff
and Brian, Paul Dodds and George
and Ruth Townsend, to name a few
were in attendance. They attended
the meetings and elections and
enjoyed the recap of the activities
held throughout Ontario, including
the Plowing Match held in Walton.
Graeme Craig was elected as the
Ontario representative to the
Canadian Plowing Association for
another three-year term. Congrats
Graeme!

Many local organizations have been benefitting from the
International Plowing Match who recently gave each of over
50 committees $2,000 to donate to local charities and
organizations. Many committees opted to split their funding
between different groups including Chair of the Website
Committee and Walton resident Monique Baan, left, who
donated $1,000 to the Blyth Festival. Shown receiving the
funds is Blyth Festival Artistic Director Gil Garratt. (Photo
