the bulletins at Knox United Church
on Sunday, March 18. Sandra Cable
welcomed the congregation on the
fifth Sunday of Lent. Sandra lit the
Christ candle and Mackenzie
Wightman played an inspiring
interlude music on the piano.
The welcoming hymn, "Tree of
Life and Awesome Mystery," was
accompanied by Ann Clark at the
organ and Lila Procter with guitar.
Gord Folkard reported on the ham
Doris and Kendra Robinson and scalloped potato supper that the
stewards are hosting on Wednesday,
greeted worshippers and handed out
April 18 at the Community Centre.
Happy Birthday was sung to Brian
Potter and Doug Walker.
The call to worship was read
responsively and the opening prayer
was read in unison. After the choir
sang an anthem, the congregation
sang, "Small Things Count"
The children gathered in the front
pew. Sandra put a fancy hat on that a
congregation had made for her after
winning an award. She read a story
about a lady who never went to
church without wearing a hat. Years
Big winner
The Belgrave Kinsmen recently wrapped up one of their biggest fundraisers, the Cash
Calendar Draw. Paul Albers, left, was the big New Year's Day winner of $1,000. Chris Michie
of the Kinsmen presented him with his winnings. It was Dean Walker of Keswick who came up

ago the ladies all went to church
wearing a hot of some sort.
Some people collect hats and if
they belonged to somebody famous
they could be worth a lot of money.
The lady in the story gave up her hat
to be sold and it raised money to
plant flowers at the church. Jesus
sacrificed his life for each one of us.
Lent is a time of giving. We can give
of ourselves and be there for others.
After prayer, the children
adjourned to Sunday school. Sandra
read the scripture from John 12: 20-
33. It pertains to a grain of wheat
that remains no more than a single
grain unless it is dropped into the
ground and dies. If it does die then it
produces many grains.
Ruth Gordon reported on the
Minute for Mission entitled,
"Making a Difference". Sandra's
message to the congregation was
that sometimes we grasp on to things
that really we should let go.
What are your priorities? Do you
need to release and let them go? She
told a story of a man and asked what
aspects of the main character we
could see in ourselves. The story was
of a man who didn't want to part
with his money. Rather than him
giving up his money he always
thought someone else could. One
day while sitting on the bench a
group of children passed by singing
"Johnny Appleseed" and one child
gave him an acorn. An acorn could
develop into a tree. A seed is useless
if not planted. One dollar is not a
great amount but when combined
with other donations it can make a
difference.
By hearing the children sing and
the little girl giving him an acorn this
changed the man's life. He was
willing to give money to help others.
The congregation sang verses one
and three of "We Are One", followed
by communion.
Allen Walker, Ken Procter, Lila
Procter and Susan Jamieson
distributed the elements of
communion. The prayer after
communion was read in unison, and
then "We Are One" verses two and
four were sung. Ken Procter and
Larry Harper took up the offering,
which was dedicated before the
service concluded.
The community Coffee Break will
be held on Tuesday, March 27, 9:30
- 11 a.m. in the Belgrave
Community Centre. Everyone is
welcome.
Good Friday service will be held
at Knox United Church at 11 a.m.
