Belgrave World Day of Prayer event brings 15 out PEOPLE AROUND BELGRAVE By Linda Campbell Call 357-2188 The next Community Coffee Break is on Tuesday, March 13 in the Belgrave Community Centre from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome. Fifteen women gathered in the church basement for the World Day of Prayer on Friday, March 2. Some of them took part in the readings and Nancy Folkard showed a DVD. The origins of World Day of Prayer date back to the 19th century when Christian women of the United States and Canada initiated a variety of co-operative activities in support of women's involvement in mission at home and in other parts of the world. After the devastation of World War I, women incorporated the conviction that world peace was tied to world mission. After the North American women distributed a worship service to countries and partners in mission in 1926, the enthusiastic response led to the worldwide call to prayer that we now know as the World Day of Prayer.
