Fifteen women gathered in the
church basement for the World Day
of Prayer on Friday, March 2. Some
of them took part in the readings and
Nancy Folkard showed a DVD.
The origins of World Day of
Prayer date back to the 19th century
when Christian women of the United
States and Canada initiated a variety
of co-operative activities in support
of women's involvement in mission
at home and in other parts of the
world.
After the devastation of World
War I, women incorporated the
conviction that world peace was tied
to world mission. After the North
American women distributed a
worship service to countries and
partners in mission in 1926, the
enthusiastic response led to the
worldwide call to prayer that we
now know as the World Day of
Prayer.

World Day of Prayer, we do this as a
community. We continue our
relationship in prayer and service
throughout the year. We work
together as women of various races,
cultures and traditions. We become
aware of the worldwide community
of people. We become enriched by
the faith experience of other
Christians. We become aware of the
burdens many people have to carry.
