Students excited as March Break approaches

WALTON

The first of March arrived and
started as a pretty good day. It was
cooler than the day before, but no
rain, ice, snow or fog. Guess we can
say that it came in as a lamb.
Unfortunately, that could mean that
March will go out as a lion! Just
when we thought that spring was
around the corner. We will have to
wait and see how it goes.
The kids are counting the days
until March Break and you can be
assured, teachers and bus drivers are
too! Excited voices can be heard
saying they are going away. Some
are going to grandparents, some are
having birthday parties and others
just don't know. One more week to
go. Last day of school is March 9 so
watch for kids out and about next
week — playing road hockey or
maybe riding bikes.
One building in downtown
Brussels is getting some
improvements done. JD & Company
business woman, Jackie DeWit, is
busy renovating the apartments
behind and above her business into
suites for weekend or weekday stays.
She has one suite done ready to be
rented. The suite is lovely and good
luck with the next ones.
A second building downtown had
a facelift in getting new windows
installed. On Tuesday and
Wednesday, the two very mild days,
they installed the windows. They
look great. They are above the
former Rack and Roost Store, so
take a look! Too bad more of the
unused buildings could have at least
a facelift to attract more new
business to Brussels.
Friends of Glenn Warwick
have him in their thoughts as he
has had surgery yet again. We
hope he is doing well.
Returning from a perfect holiday
are four couples from our area and
afar. Raymond and Wilma
Rammeloo have a beautiful beach
home on the ocean in El Salvador.
They were joined by couples Jim and
Danica McNichol, Jim and Linda
McDonald and the McDonalds' sister
Pat and Mike Parr. The group
enjoyed beautiful weather with sun
everyday, temperatures around 30°C
and just a slight ocean breeze. Their
place is secluded and a trip into town
to get groceries for the stay was
enjoyed. A full-time cook and
housekeeper looked after their needs
for the 10 -day vacation and it was
fantastic. Welcome back!

The International Plowing Match committee recently
dispersed more than $100,000 to be donated by committee
chairs to worthy causes. Some of the first donations made
after the funding was made available were to the Walton
Community Hall and the Walton Community Park. Top left,
the IPM Lunch Committee made a $1,000 donation to the

A representative for the Walton
Hall and Walton Ball Park received
cheques from the representatives of
the 2017 International Plowing
Match on Friday evening. Jo -Ann
McDonald accepted the cheques on
behalf of the Walton Hall Board and
the Walton Ball Park committee
receiving $1,000 for each of the
groups. She received the cheque for
the Walton Hall from the
"Lunch Bunch" ladies who prepared
the lunches in the Walton Hall for
the hundreds of plowing
participants, tractor drivers and
workers at the Match. The ladies
included Anne Bosman, Val Pethick
and Val Bolton. Jo -Ann received
the cheque for the ball park from
Cheryl Ryan and Brenda Dalton on
behalf of the LifeStyles committee.
The monies were presented from the
IPM in their commitment to
supporting the communities in
Huron County with proceeds from
the match.
The Cranbrook Dart Club had
only 16 darters attend due yet again
to holidays and flu. Team 5 of
Murray Houston and Karen Bowles
won five games for the top team of
the night. The high shots were by
Rita Bowers hitting 128 and Murray
hitting 140. Hopefully everyone is
back and taking aim next week!
Returning from a fabulous
vacation are Keith and Gloria
Wilbee. They drove to Florida with
stops in Nashville to see the sights.
They spent two days there and went
to the Grand Ole Opry and heard
stars Lorrie Morgan, Trace Atkins,
Bill Anderson, Jillian Jacqueline and
Dustin Lynch perform. They really
enjoyed catching and listening to the
amateur acts on Broadway Street.
They went to the Country Music
Hall of Fame and Studio B, where

I ran into Betty Glanville the other
day and she was so busy she hardly
had time to talk! For anyone who
knows Betty, you know she is really
a busy lady. Her project at this time
is the organizing of the Breath of
Spring Event at the Ag. Building in
Seaforth for the Homecraft Division
of their Fair. Betty is president yet
again, but she always does a great
job. The evening is a fundraiser for
the Huron Hospice Volunteer
Services and includes a silent
auction, dessert and coffee, and a
trio of speakers. This event always
sells out due to the hard work of
crazy busy Betty and her crew so set
aside April 18 and get your tickets at
Pete's Paper Clip.
Neil and Loretta Dolmage were
surprised last week when many of
their old neighbours gathered to
welcome them to their new home.
They were very surprised and the
dozen or so neighbours chatted and
everyone caught up with old news,
new news and what's going to be
news in their lives. It was a lovely
evening for all!
Celebrating birthdays last week
and kicking off the month of March
were Stacey Linton Courtney,
Emmett Houston, Jeffrey Huether,
Holly Ryan, Crystal Whyte, Adam
Ryan, Owen Ryan, Megan den
Dekker, Kathy Ryan, VeraLyn
Smith, Sloane McCallum, Sandra
Butler, Elaina Jarosz, Debra Fraser,
Melissa Glanville, Dean Hackwell,
Ruthann Hoegy, Andy Pethick,
Nicole Stevenson and Brian Wilbee.
Happy birthday to all!

people like Elvis Presley, Charlie
Pride and Dolly Parton all recorded.
They drove on to Atlanta and visited
the "World of Coke". You get free
samples and can try over 180 kinds
from around the world. They only
did a few but the best is our usual
kind! There is a big safe with the
secret recipe in it. The recipe is
handwritten on a small piece of
paper and only two people in the
world know what it is and it has
never been successfully copied. An
interesting tidbit of info for all.
They travelled on to Florida and
dropped in on Bruce and Margaret
Whitmore at Hawaiian Isles Resort,
at Cockroach Bay. They attended
one of the couple's concerts. They
went to Busch Gardens in Tampa
and enjoyed a musical performance
by `Arrival" from Sweden, a tribute
band of Abba, a figure skating show,
and they saw a lot of animals. They
went to Old Town in Kissimmee,
where bands play on the streets
every night. They also enjoyed
Universal Studios at Orlando. They
headed home and bad weather and
driving rain forced them to check
into a Holiday Inn. The young lady
questioned Gloria about their licence
saying Walton on it. She asked if
they knew where they were and they
answered not really, they just wanted
to get off the road. She said
"Welcome to Walton, Kentucky".
They enjoyed a chuckle over
that. Welcome back to Keith and
Gloria.
