Howick Mutual breaks ground on new office in M -T
The Howick Mutual Insurance
company held a groundbreaking at
the site of its future facility outside
of Wingham on Feb. 21.
The site, which is the former
location of Turnberry Public School,
will feature a 13,500 -square -foot
environmentally -friendly facility
that will bring employees from their
Wroxeter and Hanover facilities
together at one location.
Domm Construction of Ayton will
be in charge of the project which
will take approximately one year,
according to a press release from
Howick Mutual Insurance Company.
Company Board Chair Mark
Hamel said he was very pleased with
the turnout at the groundbreaking,
explaining that Vice -Chair Jacquie
Bishop wasn't available for the
groundbreaking.
Kevin Inglis, CEO of the
company, said the groundbreaking
was a big day for the company as it
has had its headquarter in the same
place in Wroxeter for the entirety of
its 140 -year history.
"Once we're here, we're not
leaving," he said. "We believe in
small towns"
Jake Domm, representing Domm
Construction, said his company was
glad to be a part of project and that
mobilization at the site would be
starting shortly.
Mayor Paul Gowing of Morris-
Turnberry Council, home
municipality of the site, said the day
prompted plenty of gratitude,
starting with the representatives of
Howick Mutual.
"We have to thank the board of
directors for choosing this site," he
said. "This is a tremendous
undertaking and I can't think of a
better spot to hold the facility."
Gowing also said that Morris-
Turnberry Council played a part in
the day, thinking back to when the
opportunity arose to purchase the
school site.
Council chose to purchase the site
in mid -2013 and, over the past
several years, worked to ready it for
a development like the one planned
by Howick Mutual.
"Partnerships like the one between
Morris-Turnberry Council and
Howick Mutual Insurance Company
are important for progress to move
forward," Gowing said.
Hamel agreed, saying the
company holds Morris-Turnberry
Council in high esteem.

project, contact the company at 519-
