Singing group event a success
A NOTE FROM BETTY
Yuk Yuk's in Brussels
Christophe Davidson was the emcee for a special Yuk Yuk's
event hosted at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community
Centre on Saturday. The event was a fundraiser for the
Brussels, Morris and Grey Recreation Committee.
Comedians Davidson welcomed to the stage, including
Dave Burke and Dom Pare, had credits including the Just
For Laughs Festival in Montreal and the Winnipeg Comedy
Festival. (Shawn Loughlin photo)

Branch mourns Comrade
By Jo -Ann McDonald
It was a normal beginning and
then a busy weekend last week.
The Thursday night darts had 17
darters return to play after two
weeks of sickness for many. Winners
were: first, Sheron Stadelmann and
Gord Jacklin; second, Betty Ann
Smith, Lisa Glanville and John
Stadelmann; high shots, Sheron,
140, Catrina Josling, 120 and Joan
Smith, 104.
The Brussels Legion Branch
received the sad news of the
passing of Comrade Bill Eckmier.
Bill had been a member of Branch
218 for 36 years and was a quiet,
well -liked man. A faithful attender
of Remembrance Day services, he
attended many visitation Legion
services for other Comrades who
have passed. A lover of the outdoors,
he could be found in his garden for
hours. He shared his bounty with
many of his neighbours and friends.
Our sympathies are extended to
Bill's family.
Comrades of the Branch gathered
at the Riverside Funeral Home on
Saturday for a Legion service for
Bill. Comrades attending the service
were Forrest Whittard, Lisa
Glanville, Mabel Glanville, Bob
Kellington, Don Chesher, Jo -Ann
McDonald and Catrina Josling
with President Jamie Mitchell and
Padre Sandra Cable leading the
service.
The funeral luncheon for Bill was
held at the Branch Saturday
afternoon. Helping at the Branch
were Lisa Glanville, Joan Smith, Jo-
Ann McDonald, Catrina Josling,
Judy Lee and Mabel Glanville.
There were four Comrades headed
to Hespeler on Saturday to
participate in District Senior Darts.
The four -Comrade team of Bob
Richardson, Eric Ross, Jim Brown
and Sandra Josling Brown, had a
very good day. The foursome
finished second, so they will
be advancing to provincial play
in Sutton. Congrats to the
Comrades.
We send our get -well wishes to
Comrade Deb Ross, who has had
knee replacement. She will be laid
up for awhile, so we wish her a
speedy recovery.

As much as we mutter about the
winter with its varied weather
offerings, you have to admit, the
days are slipping away. February is
half gone. Yippee!
Good company was available on
Wednesday night as the new
Brussels Singing Group completed
its first run in the upper room of the
arena. Zoey Onn, Don Chesher and
Jim Lee offered a variety of songs
for the group to sing, with no
pressure or expectation of it being a
performance.
A wide variety of music was tried,
with most people there knowing at
least some of the selections. So it
was fun, educational and it provided
a chance to meet new folks.
The next meeting is Feb. 21 at 7
p.m. at the same place. Feel free to
come.
Babies bring a smile just by their
presence. The United Church was a
smiling spot as Logan Cochrane and
Elaina Jarosz were introduced. It
was infant baptism time for these
two sweeties with Sandra Cable and
Hillary MacDonald offering this
sacrament to parents Adam and
Samantha and Kelly and Adam. The
grandparents were smiling widely
along with family and friends in
attendance.
The Canadian Foodgrains Bank is
one of the charities that many area
people support and it's one that our
national churches and Global Affairs
Canada can agree on. On the
placemats set out at St. Ambrose
Catholic Church on Sunday, the
2017 statistics are shown on a map
of the world with 127 projects in 35
countries which helped 924,845
people with food, grains and money.
Very impressive.
