We have three good reasons for reducing- prices
on )1t/hitewear this week. The first is that the stock
is etting down to one or two garments of a line.
That means that we will have •to be carefulorfirst
thing we know we will have a lot of odd and ends on T e e'rp
frirfacaured by the
our hands. The second reason is thatit is about let-iMacpberseri

NOTES-Oonductor Barton, who re-
placed Conductor Algie on the
B. & L. II. branch,has taken up his
residence in Goderich. The familyof
A. O. Pattion, who have been living
at Bavfield for several weeks. have re-
turned tt' town. garland Bros., who
same time ago bought a bankrupt
hardware stock at Seatortb, and, have
been running the same in conjunc-
tion with their usinese here, are offer.
ing the same for sale now, as their
business here demands all their attent-
ion. Joshua Inwood, a former resid-
ent, of Clinton. was marred in London,
on July -18 to Eolith L. Myers, of that
city. Writing from Winnipeg, under
date of the 25f,h, Miss Josie MoMurraY,
woo, with her mother went west a few
days age,says:- We have had an eleg-
ant trip. had such nice weather very
cool ; we never heard anything rnore
'about she strike, of course the section
men are not working but the track is
in good order ; it is 5 weeks since they
have done any work. A woman giv-
ing the name of McDonald, and clam-
ing Goderich township as her home,
asked to be locked up on Tuesday
night, as she had no place to eleep ;
she seemed to be a respectable woman,
and was accommodated with a night's -
lodging ; she wishes to .secure admis-
sion to the Howie cstRefuge. The data
of the Civic Holiday has not yet been
fixed ; it should not be thrown too late
in the month, as Labor Day comes on
the2i1 of Sept. The rains experienc-
ed this week have been of inestimable
value and have not done any harm to
speak of. Quite a number of our val-
ued correspondents appear to enjoying
a holiday with the other tour-
ists ; we shall be glad to hear from any
locality, that isnot represented in our
columns. The trustees of school sec-
tion No. 7, Tuckersnoitb, have engaged
Miss Maude Wiltse, of town, to take
char ge of the school tor the balance of
the year in place of Miss Fowler, who
resigned to take a course at the- -Nor-
mal. The location of a post office and
the appointment of a postmaster are
two matters which naturally give rise
to considerable gossip here ; some of
Whitewear. For these three reasons we make these
price cuts. Every garmcnt is first-class. At the ori-
ginal prices they were gooi value ; these cut prices
next week ought to see the last of them leave the store.
See our Rattenbury Street Window on Saturday.

Tartar King oats, with a request that
he would Plant them in the ordinary
way, keeping them separate from
other grains, and let them know the
result, at the end of the season, Mr
Weir planted the oats on a strip, cf
land about one-tenth of an acre, on
the 27th of April, and had the wer:ther
been favorable, could have cut them
on the 27 h of July -just three months
from the day of sowing. He is much
pleased with the looks of the grain, the
heads in particular being very good.
Of course he cannot tell anything about
the yield until the grain is threshed.
But from its appearance• as it stands,
he admits it is superior to other oats
that are in the same field.

The above date is the one set for our great closing -out

It is needless to say that we will fully sustun our repu-
tation for giving the greatest bargains ever offered in this sec-
tion. It is a day that we never stop to look for profits -our
only idea being to. close out goods which would have to be
carried over to another season if not sacrificed.
This means a wonderful saving to keen buyers and
while our old customers will be on hand we want to impress
buyers living at a distance that it will pay and pay well to drive
miles to get a share of the cheap goods -which we will offer.
We are quite ;de in saying that no. establishment out-
side. the cities can equal the quality of our stock.
