A long Standing defect in the wear of rubbers has been their breaking
operilengthwise along the edge of the cloth stay running around the shoe
nearth6sole. This cloth stay, called Piping, is a r bber-cioated fabric and is
applied botteen the liningL and the rubber upper of the sh I oe, extending down I
under th sole, to give Strength and protection against the Severe wear given
at that point, This Piping was most serviceable for these pni-poses, but had
a tendency to cause the upper of the shoo to crack along the edge of the Pip.

ingo thus rendering the shoe wortbless. . . I I
I The mext, resort in manufacture was to omit the Piping, This shifted
the trouble'or oraeking to the joining of the sote and the upper. Since then
it has been a problem to find & stay which would give the necessat-y woar at
this point. The problem has been solved and can be obtained by using. the
Zig-Zag Piping controlled in "Special Xing Quality". Rubbors, .
