At a well -attended meeting Of the
Liberals of West Huron, held in Dun-

The utrociet unanhnity prevailed, not
thes1ightstfrictiOn or unpleasantness
arising from any cause.
The name of Mr. M. G. Cameron, of
Goderich, had been mentioned an
.freely than any other, as that of a pos-

Bible aspirant for the position, but
though put in nomination he gracious-
ly declined, offering his cordial support
to the choice of the convention. •

vative 'candidate again ; but they be-
lieve that with the unsurpassed record
of the government, the progress and
prosperity of the country, and with a
candidate who has well served the in -
termite of the riding, they should be
able to keep West Huron in the Liber-
al ranks.
•
If• is aitOgether probable -that Bob

Our South Huron friends should not;
forget the convention on Tuesday next
Sept. 4th, at Brucefield. •

are quite willing to offer the either fel-

The report of the Toronto University
Matriculation examination shows thee
the Clinton Collegiate Institute rusks
.well among thoiie of the province. Miss
Agnes Chidley obtained the second
scholarship in mathematics. In this
department she heads &lithe girls who
wrote, and takes a high stand oleo
in other subjects, ranking in first.class,
honors in four. The etondintent the
three who' wrote from Clinton are as
follows:— Agnes OhiclleV, first class
honors in mathematics, Latin history
and physics, and second class honors in
Euglish and French, ranking sixteenth
of the eeyenty-two who wrotein gener.
al proficiency; Miss M. Steep.' t, first
class honors in classic, second class in
English and Fretith;Hattie B. Courtice,
(kern:id claes honors in mathematics,
Latin, French, German and physide.
This is a good showing for one of the
smaller institutes; and does credit,both
to the successful students and to their
teachers. The Clinton Institute has
Won a scholarship for the last fYve
years in succession excepting f800.
We do not know another tow chool
with the same record, and only the
larger cities can equal it.
We wish to give especial congratula-
tions to Mrs Ohidley upon the ettecees
of her four children. Lizzie and George
passed Part I of Junior Leaving, Clara
part of Juni 3r Leaving, and Agnes
Senior Leaving and Honor Matricula.
•Oen, We venture to eathat it would
be difficult to find it similar case in the
province, In all the examinations the
nstitute has been successful thirty
passed Part I, thirteen Port throe
passed One part ok Senior Leaving, and
three or four complete Senior Leavini,.
Of sixtylive writing only fifteen failed
to obtain certificates.
From the above it will be men that
the Clinton Collegiate compares with
the large city cellegiotes nom* when
considering tha iticeeseful results; in
all ite examinations but Woo of the
higher grade. We hay° a staff of
teachers who are competentate it( evid-
ently the fatt, and.to whom a great
amount of &malt should be given for
