The turieral of the late Augustus
Cornell, • undertaker, • took 'place from
his residence, Sciuth street, on Monday
afternoon. He belonged to the Order
of OddeilloWs; who attendedthe funer-

up a good business as a cabinet-maker
and undertaker,being exceedingly
genial and painstaking. •Ete had left
'Goderich for British Columbia a few
years ago, and of a progressive nature

tracted fever, and on his recovery he
returned to his home, where unfortu.

and never really recovered from the

felt that if he exercised great tare he
might eventually- recover, but before
Christmas he suffered, so ' much front
throat trouble that he found he had to
desist from active work and take rest
Surgeons were called in, but their skill
failed to lengthen bis days. His pa-
tience and cheerfulness were remark-
' able through his Painful ; no
murmur ever passed Its lips -his end
was peace. Rev, Mr. Godwin officiated
at the house. The ceskeb was covered
with beautiful flowers, the most nota-
ble being the Oddfellows' tributatlieee
links, white flowers; pillow offering
from his family; lergeboquet of yellow
roses, sent front Chicago, the tribute of
:his brother-in-law, Joseph Edward,
and many boqtlets and floral tributes
from other friends. The mourning
were his father, Mr, Cornell; his broth-
ers, Messrs. H. orate, Percy, Barb and
13enatiniti, and .Mr. Ohne. Reward, his
brother -le -law, of Toronto, His tester,
:Mrs. Jonesof Platteville, also attended
the funeral. The undertaker was Mr.
Irwin of Bayfield, who was the agent
of the late Mr. A. Cornell in that sea-
side . village. The •Oddeillows, took
charge of the funeral. The pall -bearers
were Messrs. E. Tilt and Charlie Swett -
eon, two intimate friends Of deceased,
and Messrs, joho Proudfoot. Donnelly
Johnston, Harry Reid and Tom Naire
:of the.X. O. O. P. Chaplain A. Saun-
ders and his assistant, Harry Reid,
concluded the burial service of the
1. 0. O. P. at the geese, Maitland cent.

of Margaret Keyes, relict of the late
aedFge. Bates. She was the only
daughter of the late Wm and Jane
Keyes, and was born in County Fer-
managh, Ireland, lethe year 1827. In
early life she emigrated with her Pare'
entsto Canada, to the township of Ma-
tilda, Dundas coanty, where net youth-
ful doe's w•ere spent. Having removed
to the township of Stanley, Huron
county, she was shortly afterward uni-
ted in . marriage to George • Bates.
They settled on a farm on the Hayfield
road and here she resided till on. Feb.
5th, 1890, Death milled her to her hap-
py reward. Her husband pre -deceased
her about seven years ego, in early

lian church, but in later years stile be -
bailie connected with the Methodist
church of which she was a consistent

She was in declining health for a num-
