He was a young St Paul men, who was registered as "Herr Louis Wilkins." Herr Wilkins towered 8 feet 2 inches in height, and he had the gas plank all to himself, because he. was built in proportion to his height, He made the plinks creak. The cus- tom house officer's looked skyward when they talked to him about his luggage, of which there was consider- able. He wore a cutaway coat and a Fedora bat, and had a ring of hammer- ed gold on his little finger that was so massive that the crowd couldn't help noticing it. Mr Wilkins is 23 years old, and he is an actor, being cast ill fairy extrava- ganzas for the appropriate role of the wicked giant. He slipped on the deck of the Normania several days ago and came down with a crash, from the ef- fects of which he has not yet recovered. The physicians of London and Berlin believe that the St. Paul youngster is the tallest man on earth, and what is more astonishing is that they think he hasn't stopped growing yet as far as height is concerned. He is going hack to Europe after two months of rest. He has four brothers and one sister, all of normal size, His father and mother are of a average height only. Mr. Wilkins' own growth was normal until his four th year. He is a puzzle to the doctors. He wears a 21 shoe and a 91-2 hat. It takes a No. 1.4 glove to cover his huge hands, and his coat has a chest measure of 54 inches. He attained nearly his present height just before he reached his twenty-first birth- days' The mechanics on the Normania had to alter the berth arrangement his stateroom to give him a chance to stretch out full length when he went to bed. Mr Wilkins is perfectly healthy and luckily, is very good natured. TWO BOTTLES CURE PIMPLES. Gentlemen,—For a long time I had pimples breaking out all over my face. I was told about 13,4.B., and started its use. After taking one bottle I was much better, and the second bottle made a complete cure. I have recomended it to others of my friends, and they have found it uni- formly eatisfactcry, A. F. BEST. Whitebread, Ont. The party of 187 immigrants who came over recently by the steamship Vancouver, were distributed as follows; 44 remained in Montreal, 43 went to Manitoba, and the balance were dis- tributed in Western Ontario, a few7re- nuaining in Toronto. Among the par- ity were 12 little girls, sent out by Mrs Joyce, five of whom remained in Mon- treal, the balance going to Manitoba. His Narrow Escape. Many times Blondin walked across Ni- agara on the tight rope. He carried a man across on his shoulders, pushed a loaded wheelbarrow and did all sorts of tricks out there over the roaring, foami", current and did stnnilar feats througle,ui, the coun- try: While here at McVicker's theater he told an attache of thatestahlishment of an incident connected with his Niagara per- formance that the attache, now an elderly man, repeated to this writer within the last few days. Blondin said: "Ze people at Niagara one time present me a vera beautiful medal of gold, set wiz diamond, and when I was carry ze man on my shoulders across Ni- agara I wear ze neda1. One time when we wore 'bout half way 'cross I think I feel ze medal slip as eef he was falling to ze waters below. y first impulse was to catch at ze medal, lili'n to save, but I think betters and say to myself, bettars let ze xaedal go tali ze man. Zet man nevare know to does dm how near he come to go to ze bottom. Blht,"after all, se medal not slip, and 'him ,I have yet. Of course I could ze rope have caught and save myself had I loze ze balanoe, but ze man on my shoulder he would not soon his home some more."—Chicago Times -Herald. Father Kneipp, whose death was lately erroneonslAreported, is celebrated through- out all Europe ea the originator of the cold water cure. When, as ayoung man, he had lust entered the priesthood, bis health be- gan to fail, and he thought he would be obliged to give up his profession. He was loath to do this, bowever, and began a care- ful study of the human body. He beuawe oonvinoed that the oongeetion of the blood in different parts of the body was the cause of so many ills to whioh flesh is heir, and determined that the external application of los cold water was the best remedy for that. He underwent a course of this treat- ment himself, and was soon restored to health. A CROUPY COUGH WAaSOON DRIV- EN AWAY BY DR CHASE'S LIN- SEED AND TURPENTINE "My little boy bad a bad croupy cough," says Mrs Smith of 256 Bathurst street, Torouto. "My neighbor, Mrs Hopkin, re- commended me to try Chase's syrup of Linseed and Turpentine. I did so and the first dose did him good. One bottle com- pl-tely cured the cold. It is surprising, the popularity of Chase's Syrup in this neighborhood. It appears to me it can now be found in every house." Mr. W. J. White, tor several years proprietor and manager of the Bran- don Sun, has been appointed try the Dominion Government, Press Agent for the Immigration Department. Mr. White's duties will be to superintend the compilation and distribution of im- migration literature for the Govern- ment, and for which his long newspa- per experience eminently qualifies him. His headquarters will be at Ottawa. A TRIUMPH WON. "Before taking Doan's Kidney Pills I felt that diabetes had its grip on me. Now I know that it has been met and defeated. I have used the pills for some time and now enjoy good health. 1 shall always be glad to testify to she merits of this trium- phant medicine. RICHARD LYMAN, St. John, N. Of this number 157,583 belong to Lon- don, north of the Thames. The stet- istics of choirs, given in this article, show that there were 40,224 paid chor- isters(iucluding 1,652 women and girls,) and 290,983 who were unpaid, or volun- tary. In this latter list were 81,151 women. FAILURE IMPOSSIBLE When Nerviline-nerve pain oure— is ap- plied. Smith, wished to marry a servant girl, but her relatives objected. He , stated that he had .£3,000 in the bank, and offered to take a farm and settle £1,0(0 on the girl. The relatives ap- pointed a day to go the bank for evid- ence of his wealth, and the man had dinnerat tbe house, hut died there an hour afterwards.
