Miss E. E. Hanna, of Wingham, is
renewing old acquaintances on the
10th.
A sleigh load of young people from
the 10th spent a pleasant time at Mr.
David Scott's, 6th con., on Friday even-
ing.
Mr. W. Bone is spending a week ss ith
friends at Guelph..
Mrs. A. Rentoul returned to Fuller-
ton on Monday, after spending a
month with friends on the 10th and
12th. '
Miss Snell, of Hullett, is visiting her
sister, Mrs. E. Walker, 12th con.
Mr. and Mrs. Wylie, who have been
spending a month an the 7th, returned
home to Belgrave lest week.
On•Sunday the anniversary services
of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church,
Blyth, were held, the preacher for the
occasion being Rev. Mr. Robinson, of
Manitoba. Large congregations were
'?r•esent at each service and listened
'Attentively to excellent discourses. At
the close of the services liberal collec-
tions were taken up. On the following
Monday the reverend gentleman de•
livered a lecture in the church on
missionary work in the gold fields of
British Columbia to another large con-
gregation. At the close a silver collec-
tion was taken up.
On Monday a meeting of the rate-
payers was called for in Industry Hall
for the purpose of nominating a coun-
cillor in place of A. McNally, who re-
signed. Our townsman Mr, Geo. Pow-
ell, grain buyer, was nominated and
elected by acclamation.
On Sunday' the re -opening of St.
Paul's Roman Catholic Church took
place after having been closed up for
sometime past, the congregation hav-
ing spent some hundreds of dollars in
renovating it inside and out. The new
altar is a handsome piece of workman-
ship. There was a very large congrega-
tion at the morning service when the
Right Rev. Bishop O'Connor, D. D.,
of London was present, and blessed
the new Alter and preached. In the
evening another large congregation
was present when his Lordship ad-
dressed theta which was listened to
with marked attention. The proceeds
of the services were handsome.
Mr. J. B. Kelly, an old time Blythite
hut now of Goderich, was in town on
Sunday.
Preparations are being made by
Trinity church congregation for hold-
ing a birthday party and social in In-
dustry Hall on Friday everting, Feb.
4th. As this is something new we will
all have to take it in.
Bros. W. McElroy and Jas. Gibson
of the L. 0, L. Nb. 063 were out one
day recently soliciting subscrip-
tions for the purpose of holding the
County demonstration on the next 12th
July in this town. We understand
they met with great success in fact far
ahead of any previous occasion.
At a special meeting of our town dad-
dies met on Monday evening in Indus-
try hall, Messrs. MeCreight and Carter,
were appointed the engineers of the
fire department for 1808 at asalary of
$50 between them.
Rev. T. E. and Mrs. Higley visited
Brussels on Tuesday.
Rev. A. McLettn and Mr, Richard
Somers attended a meeting of the
Presbyterial' in Goderich on Tuesday.
Detective Murray, of Toronto, was
• in town one day last week.
Tom McOreight has his skating rink
at the salt, block in first-class order and
is being well patr'i5bized.
