A woman from Lindsay, Ont., was
miraculously cured at the shrine,
of St. Anne recently. She was auf Bring
Irian partial paralysis of the lower limbs,
and had to be carried from the cars to
the church door, from which she Peens
aged to drag herself slowly and painfully
by the aid of crutches to the
shrine. Here her faith was rewarded
and she returned cured and without her
crutches.
file above is one of the telegrams for
which the people of this tree and en
I;ghtened country are regularly calied
on to aY)
and which are
devoutly rd
ad.
'1'ttis is Lindsay, Ontario, and no ort,,
here has heard much of the miraculous
cure. Still when such wondrous milia,
cies are being wrought by means of
pink I ills, Burdock Blood Bittere,l'aine's
celery compound, Ayer's pills, and a
thousand and one other preparations,
why should not the quacks at St.
Anne's shrine get their shale of the
business.
Still it is hardlythe thing to have
such ordinary stuff as pink pills coming
into competition. with the holy shrine of
St. Anne. Something must be done to
atop lt.-Lindsay Wader.
A MISGUIDED PARSON.
The following is going the rounds of
the press purporting to emanate from a
preacher named Mat'' rltndat Ripley,
Ontario. The subject ut hissong seem -
to he the resolutions of the Gland
Orange Lodge forbidding the passing
and publishing of resulutious censurieg
this or that Orange Grand Lodge officer.
He is reported as saying :
"These are heavy tidings from men
who are made drunk by the Jesuits. 1t
you submit, 1 for one, will put off the
emblem. We have the right to criticise
our chief. Let us stand for freedom of
sl •ech. Shall we, Orangemen, submit
to have our mouths closed ? If we do,
then farewell orangcistn. We are on
our trial now. Let us stand by our
principles ; stand by the British Crown.
I did expect something from that Grand
Lodge ; but I am amazed ; and bumiliat.
ed."
The unfortunate parson, says the
Warder, seems to be of that class whose
sole and only logic lies in censliro and
condemnation. One is safe in assert•
fug that the dust is regularly thumped
out of his pulpit. But the good man
should not be in a hurry to doff his
Orange toggery. He should hesitate
in calling names. Ile should think
twice defore allying himself with
Jesuit policy as he has done.
. If the good brother's heart were
bubbling over with true 'Christian
charity he would scarcely "take un" as
he deee.
No one is preventing freedom of
speech. As a citizen Rev. Sutherland
is free to thiuk and act as he pleases.
As member of the Orange society he
is pledged to conduct himself towards a
brother in proper spirit and forrn. If
any brother transgresses, the Orange
constitution and laws are broad enough
to roach hint in regular form. But un-
fortunately for such men as the preacher
referred to, trials under the Orauge
constitution and laws are conducted so
that the accuser and the accused must
be brought face to face. It is doubt-
less much more congenial for mon of
the Sutherlar1 stainp to try and cou-
deruu Hon. Mackenzie 13owell, and
Icon. N. C. Wallace hundreds of miles
away from these brethren, standing in
a position where none can offer him
reply, than if he had to bolt those
gentlemen eye to eye, and have his
visionary charges met by olid argu-
ment,
Let Rev. Mr. Sutherland doff the
coward's role and come face to face
with those honored brethren at next
Grand Lodge. Meantime let him
formulate his charges as the constitu•
Lion and laws of the society provide, and
not, craven like, go blowing off hun
d1•ede of miles from those whotn he
Blenders. -We promise him British
justice and fair play, which are Orange
justice and fair play at next Grand
Lodge meeting. We also venture the
assertion that ho will turn out one of
the commonest kinds of stuffed lions
when the examination is held.
THE MODERN JACK HORNER•
"Little Jack Horner eat in a corner,
Eating a Christmas pie ;
Ile put in his thumb and pulled out a plum,
And said 'What a good bey am I ! ' "
But little Jack Horner became a deep mour•
ner
When alder he grew and a glutton.
For hie liver, I'll state, was light a dead
weight,
As he drank wine and ate to much [Hutton.
Poor Jaclt's time of grief, however, was
brief,
And of sickness he ceased to be fearful ;
For a boon friend said "Well, let's try
Pieroe'e Pellets,"
And with good livers both are now oheerful.
Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pallets, absolutely

tion, indigestion, and all derangements of
the stomach and bowels. Satisfaction

$500 reward offered for an incurable case
of Catarrh by the proprietors of Dr. Sage's
Remedy. 50cte.; by druggists.
-There was a million dollar fire at
Chicagoan Thureday last. Five blocks
were wiped out of exiatence.
To rise in the morning with a bad taste
in the mouth and no appetite, endicates that
the stomach needs strengthening. For this
purpose, there is nothing better than an 00-
oasional dose of Ayer's Pills taken et bed
time.

The eager hunters after news on the
Toronto papers gave currency to a
rumor a few days ago to the effect that
a general election for the Ontario
Legislature had been determined on
for this fall and would be held, They
appeared to have forgotten Sir Oliver
Mowat'e statement at the close of last
session, which was as follows :-
"Before moving an Adjournment of
the Houso the Attorney -General said
that the notion seemed to prevail that
the Government contemplated having
a general election before another session
of the House. It was only right to
say, for the information• of the mem-
ber, and the people generally, that this
was not so. They had always con•
tended that there should be a fourth
session of the Legislature before an
election, and that would continuo to be
the policy of the 4overnmont."
