As a consequence of the British Gov-
ernment's decision to compel the
slaughter of cattle from Canada at the
port of arrival, further losses by ship-
pers are reported. It cannot be ex-
pected that the business of exporting•
cattle from Canada to Britain will be
continued at a loss. Shipments must
cease, or shippers must pay lower
prices to our farmers for the cattle.
In the latter event, the price of beef in
Canada may come down. This is not
full'compensation:for the loss Cana-
da will sustain by the reduction of the
farmers' purchasing power, but if the
price of roast beef and steak drops
from 15 to 17 cents a pound to 8 or 10
cents, the home consumption of these

GO TO WORE.
One half of the professed Christians
amount to nothing. They go to church,
they pay pew rents, they kave a kind,
regard for all religious institutions;
but as to any firm grip of truth,, any
enthusiastic service for Christ, •anY
cheerfid self-denial, any over-master.-
ing prayer, any capa, city to strike hard
blows for God, they are a failure. One
or two things these half and half pro-
fessors ought to do -either withdraw
their names from the church roll or
else go'so near the fire surto get warm.
Do you know that your - present con-
dition is an absurdity? You profess
to be living for God and heaven, but
all the world knoWs you are lying.
Wake up 1 Do something before you
are dead. Either help to pull tire
Lord's chariot or get out of the way.
We want more old. style holiness, the
kind that they had before railroads,
steamboats and telegraphs. A conse-
crated' heart is momentum for all
Christian work. Your gun is well
epough, but the gun carriage is rickety,
and so unfit for the Lord's battery.
The Lord give us all a higher life, a
deeper life, a broader life! NVe cannot
do much toward saving others till we
ourselves are more surely saved. More
faith, more consecration will be more

CANADA'S GREAT FAIR.
The receipt of a copy of the Prize
List for the Toronto Industrial Exhibi-
tion, to be held from the 4th to 16th
Sept, reminds ns that Chicago is not
the only place that is to have a great
Fair this year, and that our own great
Canadian Fair is to be held as usual
and on a much larger scale than ever.
The Toronto Association is expending
again this year over one hundred thou-
sand dollars in improvements, embrac-
ing new stables, new cattle sheds, a
complete system of drainage, new side-
walks and roadways, etc. The addi-
tions being made this year give the
grounds a wonderfully changed . ap-
pearance, which will be a surprise to
visitors of former years. The new
stables and cattle sheds are being- con-
structed in such a way that visitors
can pass through them and- from one
to the other without having to step
out of doors. This year's Fair with the
numerous attractions that are to be
provided, seems likely to draw better
than ever. Those of our readers who
desire tt copy of the Prize List can se-
c st e one by dropping a, post card to
