MONTREAL LIVE STOCK
MARKET
There were about 250 head of butch-
ers' cattle, 800 calves and 350 sheep and
lambsoffered at the East End Abattoir.
Trade was rather slow as the drovers
were asking a considerable abvano0 on
the late prices of cattle, and the butch-
ers' bought sparipgly in hopes of more
liberal supplies towards the middle of
the week. The best beeves sold at
about 6}o per lb, with pretty good stook
at 5o to 5lo ; db fat oxen and rough
steers at from 4,}o to 5c, and leanish
beasts and herd bulls at about 4o per lb.
James Eakins of Port Hope, bought
about 20 head of cattle to -day for ship-
ment'to Great Britain. Calves were in
excessive supply, and the warm weath-
er did not help the sales. Prices were
from 91 to a little over 95 each. The
best sheep were bought to -day to ship
to Winnipeg at about 4o per lb.,or from
$55 to 96 each Lambs are declining in
price, and sell at from $2 to 94 each,
with a little more in some oasesfor very
choice lambs. Fat hogs sell at about
54c per lb.
