MONTREAL LIVE STOCK
MARKET
There is nothing new in the situation
of the cattle market, matters being in
about the same position, and cables that
had been reoeivad up to the time of
writing go to show that tthere was no
improvement at Liverpool. Shippers
are feeling rather blue, and more than
one have signified their intention of
stepping down and out for the time be-
ing, or until some money can be made.
Manitoba cattle are coming in ,freely.
About 18 cars arrived at the C.P.H.
yards on Saturday night 67 head of
which were bought at $3.70 per cwt.
About 60 stockers were bought by one
shipper at 3c per lb at the east end,and
another markets, paying from 3f to
die. These cattle will average about
1,100 lbs, and will%) forward as seuond
quality fat cattle. Another lot of 80
head brought 4 to 4ic, and were in fair-
ly good condition, in fact, could be
classed as fat stock and will be shipped
as such. Sheep, according to dealers
here, are not making money on the
other side, and the market here is
rather dnll in consequence.
FALL BULBS
Important Testimony.
The REV. COVERDALE WATSON'. for
the last throe years the popular pastor of the
Ceatral Methodist Church, Moor St.,Toron•
to, but now of Victoria, R.C., writes under
date of Aug. 5th, 1890, as follows:—"Dear Mr.
Simpson: Yours of the 20th July was duly
received. 1 can only say with respect to Dr
A. Wilford Hall's Hygienic treatment, that I
regard it as a wonderful discovery , and if
perseveringly used it cannot fail to be of
great service I would advise any one to get
the pamphlet, begin the use of the treat-
ment and throw medicine to the dogs. A
very clever t.hysician said to me the other
day, "let medicine alone and get rid of tha
waste materials, and the organs will perform
their functions." THis 18 FuECISei,v WHAT
THIS TREATMENT DOES. Sincerely yours, C.
WATSON.
REV. W. P. HALL, of Point Peninsula, N.Y.,
Writes: "Di . Hall, Dear Sir, -1 have just an-
swered a letter from Utah Territory. A friend
wished to know if my testimonial was given cor-
rectly in the MICROCOSM ? I answered yes; that
it was true to the letter, and that my indorse-
ment was nowhere near as strong as 1 could now
truthfully make it. I told him that your treat-
ment had cured are of rheumatism, kidney dis-
ease, catarrh and other complications of disease,
so that from crutches and helplessness, I am now
as well and free from disease as fifty- years ago.
Some have accused me of being a relative of yours
and of trying to favor you. This is not true,ex-
cept so many generations back that it can not be
traced. And further, 1 have no financial inter-
est in the business, and only desire to make the
treatment known to benefit suffering humanity-.
I have already received and answered more than
sixty letters from all parts of the country, re af-
firming the truth of my testimonial, and I will
gladly answer a hundred times sixty 1 t;,ereby
1 can induce sufferers to try your treatment. as
I declare before God my unfaltering conviction,
both from my own experience and observation
in numerous cases, that your discovery, if pro-
perly used and persevered in, will cure any form
of curable illness flesh is heir to, -1 am ready
now to proclaim to all men unreservedly that
your treatment as set forth in your Health
Pamphlet and without drugs of any kind is the
healing balm for the afflicted that is capable of
supplying health to every suffering sea and
daughter of Adair, Let me know how i can
servo you, and command me freely. Your friend
gratefully, "W. P. Hall."

BRITISII CATTLE MARKETS.
While the market is actually no low•
er, the decline that was noted last week
is held, and the feeling appears weak.
Supplies are large, and the demand,
while steady, is unequal to the receipts
that have been coming in. For best
beeves 12Ic per 111,is being paid. but on
account of the inferior quality not a
great many of the cattle touch this
price. Offerings of :,anadian cattle on
the Stanley market were 375 head.
Heavy American supplies, however,
have contributed to the weak feeling.
Supplies from other sources were fair
only. §heap are nominally unchanged.
The consignments from Canada arrived
too late for the Stanley market, and
prices are allowed to remain at' last
week's figure.
We can fill every page of the NEW ERA
with just such testimonials as the above, and
we defy any .one to show that any of them
are not genuine. Send your address at once

TORONTO LIVE STOCK MAR- 1
KETS. -
Sept. 10th.—The receipts of stock at
the west end cattle market last week
were :-3,332 cattle, 2,606 sheep and
lambs and 1,250 hogs. So much stuff
was sent forward last week that the
market yesterday felt the dulling effect.
The receipts yesterday were only 40
loads, but the light run could not buoy
up the depression consequent on last
week's heavy dealings. In fat exporters
And stockers there was little doing.
There were not many on the market, but
the shippers find themselves overstocked
and ,with aa many at Montreal as
will be sent away this week, so that
anything they brought yesterday, will
have a week's keep added to his cost.
There was no change in quotations
from last Friday, but sales were slow.
As was the case last week the firm spot
in the market was butchet',q cattle.
They were wanted and sold well. The
receipts were not heavy. Fat exporters
might be quoted:—Good to choice, $4 25
to $4 50; medium, $-1 per cwt. Stockers
—3c to Sac per lb. for medium to good
stock; choice, Sic to 3ric, and inferior,
$2 75 to $2 90 per cwt. Butchers' cattle
—Extra, $3 60 to $375 per cwt.; medium
to good $3 12i to $3 37i per cwt.;inferior
$250 to $3 per cwt. There were only
about 250 lambs offered and about 10
sheep. The sheep were selling bad.
All that good sheep would fetch was $6
per head and medium $ 5 to $5 50 ; culls
$4 to $4 50 per cwt. Lambs overstock-
ed the market last week so that the
dealers were relieved to find so few
yesterday. A bunch of :30 lambs,
weighing 80 lbs., sold for $4 per head,
and another bunch of 113 of the same
weight fetched the same figure.

The great Blondln and all other tight
rope walkers were outdone on Saturday
by a plucky resident of Toronto, who
walked a cable seven -eights of an inch
in diameter stretched across the Nia-
gara Falls gorge, between the suspen-
sion and cantilever bridges. True to
his announcement he appeared at the
Canadian end of the cable at 3.28
o'clock. Dixon, as he stood on the
narrow wire with his balance pole in
hie hands, looked pale and anxious.
He whipsered some words of instruc-
tion to his attendant, and started on
his perilous trip. At least 8,000 specta-
tors, lined both banks of the river, bad
their eyes fastened on the intrepid rope
walker. People held their breaths,
and seemed to be petrified at the antics
of the man as he scampered down the
wire, hundreds of feet above Niagara's
roaring waters and ruggeclcliffs.
a
he went till about a quarter of the dis-
tance had been traversed, when a halt
was made. He stood on one foot, hold-
ing out the other almost horizontally
and waving his band to the spectators..
Then be continued on his journey un-
til the centre was reached, when he at
down and threw both lege over his bal-
ance pole, which was resting on the
wire, and stretched- out at full length
on his back on the wire, crossing his'egs
and folding his arms on his breast.
Then he went on until three-quarters
had been passed. Then he again stood
on one leg and went through a number
of other menceuvers, after which he went
rip the incline, reaching the American
side at 8.421. He sprang frorn,e wire
three feet over the edge of Me cliff,
much to the relief of the thousands of
spectators, who applauded and cheered
him vociferously.

Mr H J Scriver, of Hemmingford, a
relative of the member for Huntington
in the Commons, met with a rather
exciting adventure Saturday evening
while driving homeward alone in his
carriage. While passing through a
wood near the village of Corbin a
stranger stepped out of the bush, drew
a revolver and pointing the weapon at
Mr Scriver's head, said in the most
menacing manner possible ; "I want
this horse and buggy. You get out or
I will put a bull through your head."
He than began to move towards the
carriage, when the driver told the ras-
cal that he had better put away his
revolver, as he did not purpose making
any resistance. The would-be robber,
who was an exceedingly fresh ono, im-
mediately placed the firearm in his
hip pocket and was about to climb up
into the buggy. As quick as a tlash,Mr
Striver whipped a large pipe case out
Of bis pocket, and pointed it at the
head of his friend, said : "Now, my
man, it is time to throw up your hands;

It being dark, the fool thought be was
covered by a sharpshooter and no
doubt believing discretion to the better
part of valor,he obeyed. In this 8 range
attitude Mr Striver drove the stranger
before him for over 100 yards, but the
horse gave a sudden start he was driven
ahead of his prisoner, who took advan-
tage of the circumstance to make a
rush for the side of the road and fir ally
escaped. Although the villain has not
been captured the incident has created
considerable alarm in the neighbor-
hood,
