dication of any improvement which
would justify big prices here. The re-
ceipts of butchers' cattle continue small
or about equal to the demand, which
has had the effect of keeping prices
steady. The cattle men are showing
more or less interest in the McKinley
bill now before the UnitedStates Senate,
which will shut Canadian cattle and
lambs out of the American- markets.
We quote the following as being fair
values: Export cattle, 5 to 5;Ic; good
butchers', 4r~ to 5c; medium butchers',
4 to 4.tc ; culls 3.. c. Hoge continue to
hold firm under a steady demand at
about $5.40 to 55.60. The receipts of
sheep were small. 'The receipts since
Saturday were 450 cattle, 1:17 hogs, 18
sheep and 10 calces. About six beads
of choice butchers' stock were sold at
prices ranging froni 4t to 5c. Hogs
were scarce and all offerings were
quickly picked up at about $5.75.
Sheep movel freely at about 44 to 5c.
There was on offer at the east end
abattoir 3:10 cattle, 000 sheep and lambs
and 200 calves. The attendance of but-
chers was very fair, and while they only
bought small lots, owing to the warm
-- Clinton I weather, a good trade was transacted.
