They still, however, try to keep up a brave look, though some are ready to say, " If the Quebec Protestants act in that fashion, what is the Use of our doing anything in the pretn. The latest of these wretched cases is that of one Johnston of Toronto, ageut for the Massey Co., who is charged with seducing a yonng lady, and the latest phase of the case is, though averring Ms innocence, his agreeil►g to pay the father of the young lady a good round sum to stop prosecution. ' —At St. Johns,New Brunswick, on Wednesday the postman deliver- ed at Rev. Dr, McRae's house a small parcel, which contained a few gum drops. Mrs. McRae ate some of the candies and died in a few minutes. Her symptoms and the condition after death indicated strychnine poison. The remaining pieces were examined by an analyist and crystals of this poison were found in them. A similar parcel was delivered at the residence of Rev. Thotnas Deinstadt, a Method• bit minister, but Mrs. Deinstadt bad aotue suspicion concerning the candy and did not partake of them nor give any to her child, who begged for some. Rev. Mr. De. soyres, of St. John's Episcopal church, also received a package.
