MONTREAL LIVE STOCK
MARKET -
There were about 500 head of butch-
ers' cattle, 100 calves, 110 fat hogs, 6
sheep and a dozen lambs offered at the
East End Abattoir to -day. The cattle
market was very dull as the butchers
were holding back far a redaction in
prices. There were a number of very
fine beeves offered, not a few of them
being equal to ordinary Easter beef,
and these sold at about 480 per pound,
but tbey were of better quality then
any that have been offered here lately.
Pretty good cattle sold at 3,}c to 4fc
and common animals at from 3c to 3}c
per 'pound. Mr. Guay, -of Quebec,
bought 21 head of superior cattle at
about 4}c per lb. Mr. MacDuff Lashb
bought four very fine beeves, weighing
4,540 lbs., at 43c per lb. The calves of-
fered were all of inferior quality, and
sold at from 21 to $4 each, with a few
of the best at from $5 to $7 each. The
few sheep offered to -day seemed to be
all old bucks and not very salable, but
good yearlingswould bring up to 6c per
-Lb. The lambs sold at from $2 to $41
each, but sdine superior lambs were
bought at higher rates before reaching
the market.;1 Fat hogs are rather high -
..e jn price; those just come off thecars
f }nand fed hogs at 6c per lb.
