more active, owing to the Christmas
supplies being pretty well run out. The
demand was good and the cattle export
trade was brisk. Theenpply was small,

mend at higher figures. There were
no live hogs on the market. The horse
trade during the week was very much
better, although the prices were not
very remunaertive, The supply is still
in -excess of the.demand.

WILL GIVE DURING THIS MONTH A
TORO1 Tl LIVE STOCK.
January 9—Receipts so far this week
have been twenty-seven loads, mostly
butchers' cattle with a few heavy ex-
porters and sheep and lambs: Offer-
ings of hogs have been light. . Last
week's receipts were 662 cattle 187 sheep
and lamb and 129 hogs. There were
more butchers' cattle than the market
could stand, and trade dragged a little
at lower prices. The weather was very
unfavorable and butchers were not in-
clined to stock up, but took only suffi-
cient for their immediate wants. The
outlook at Montreal was not regardedas
favorable, and. some sellers sacrificed
their stock 'rather than risk the trip
east. The range of prices was main-
tained, however, as the bulk of the offer-
ings were cattle of good quality. The
best of them sold close up to 4c per lb,
while for anything good 3,J5 was realiz-
ed. The.few common grades sold slow-
ly. Some were not disposed of.
